About this deal

Okay, we get it. The thought of tinkering with your beloved guitar can be intimidating, but don't worry. We aren't suggesting full-scale repairs, fret jobs or advanced electrical work. We're merely proposing you show your pride and joy a little TLC. What we mean by that is regularly cleaning the body and fingerboard to remove grime, routinely changing the strings and tweaking the action when necessary. Of course, to do this successfully, you're going to need the correct tools - and that's where this guide comes in.

Designed to clean your fretboard and frets themselves without damaging them, you’ll want to use this when you’re changing strings, as they’ll need to be removed before you begin. After a different thread saying about fast fret and how many people used it and recomended it I decided I ought to give it a go, however it was quite late and obviously no shops open so I thought I`d give the olive oil thing a go, I just used a peice of kitchen paper and poured a very tiny amount of olive oil onto it, gave it a little sniff (like ya do ) coz I wondered if it would make my hands stink, but no real smell to it in fairness, then I gently rubbed the cloth down the strings, just very lightly, then with a clean cloth wiped off any excess (there wasnt much) too my suprise it really did work rather well, certainly made sliding up and down the strings a hell of a lot easier, it took me a bit of getting used to at first, a totally different feel, but once i got used to it it was ok. I`m not sure that I`ll carry on with olive oil I`m not sure I`ll want to be rubbing it all over my new guitars fretboard (when t comes), I think I`ll invest in the fast fret, just seemed odd putting olive oil onto the strings It's just white mineral oil and the specially formulated label is very misleading. The only thing that could happen to white mineral oil is that they may be using the highest quality of the oil. But it doesn't mean anything. You can trust Guitar World Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing guitar products so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test. I found it a bit easier to use than cleaner by Dunlop because the applicator stays wet for all time, no need to shake as with Dunlop bottle. So you basically pay around 46 times more than a pretty expensive mineral oil in the market. If you calculate with affordable options, this number could even go up to 100 or more! Just imagine you would like to buy the same amount of mineral oil via buying Fast Fret, you would have to pay over €1000!!!

Needless to say, we recommend keeping a clean, dry microfiber cloth handy in your guitar case or gig bag, so you can wipe down your axe after every use. We'd also suggest investing in some quality polish and fretboard cleaner as well. As I mentioned above pretty much all guitar cleaners pretty much the same. All them clean your guitar strings and extend their life. But, the reason why I choose to use the Nomad MN109 are: Slide the cloth across the guitar – Repeat action number three with the solution applied to the cloth The applicator contains a few grams of mineral oil at max. I think it's even less. That white/yellow applicator part weighs around 8g with mineral oil included. The white mineral oil costs around 0.042 EUR per ml and this is a very expensive example. There are many products in the market that cost a lot less than this. This is a full and comprehensive collection of polishes and solutions to help keep your guitar looking and feeling fresh. From the body to the fingerboard, to the strings, the Dunlop 6500 System really is one of the best guitar cleaning products out there. This set has it all – screwdriver, multi-tool, string action gauge, string winder, plus it’s got some more unique accessories too. It comes with fret collars and a fret cloth so you can polish up the frets on your fingerboard to get them as shiny and gleaming as they were when it was new. Guitar techs will love the fact that this set comes with a light too – no more fumbling around the side of a dark stage. You’ve also got some decent body polish, a lubrication gel pen for the nut and an incredibly handy uni-wrench that you can fit underneath volume and tone knobs to loosen or tighten them. I have tried both, Olive Oil works as well That one guy I referenced is not the only one to say that. All fast fret is, is mineral oil. Nothing whatever special about it. Just not necessary, that is my point. For those reading, if you research, you will find you have something that works just as well or better in your kitchen. Olive oil is unique among oils, has the properties that make it work perfectly for this purpose. Pay for official mineral oil, or use unofficial olive oil (I think is works better, easier to apply, and have tired both). I'm done. All the claims that it has are pretty much made-up stuff. Does it clean your strings? Is it maybe just because you have rubbed your guitar strings and entire fretboard with mineral oil then you need to remove the excess oil, naturally you will be cleaning the gunk on your strings. Wrap your string with the cloth– Take one end of your cloth and place it under the strings and with the other end cover the strings. The end result should be that the cloth will cover the strings from the bottom and the top.

It's worth noting that certain guitar finishes do require specialist polishes, so it's best to do your research to ensure your axe comes up gleaming rather than causing any damage to your shiny guitar. On the cleaning side of things, you’re provided with a microfibre cloth (guitarists should always have one of these to hand) as well as some of Ernie Ball’s Wonder Wipes. These are individual wipes that have been specially designed for cleaning dirty strings, the fingerboard and the guitar body – so everything you need for a good old clean!

Success

GHS Fast-Fret is the industry standard, and a popular choice for stringed instrument cleaning/ lubricating accessories. Used worldwide for over 40 years. Well I read this thread previously, I`d heard of fast fret but thought it was a gimik type of thing, a friend of mine had some but never really used it so I never bothered from there. All factors being equal (string gauge, string length beyond the nut and saddle, break angles, and so on), shorter scales produce lower string tension, are more elastic, easier to fret, and require less arm extension.
