About this deal

The Father-Daughter Bond: One might say there is no such bond here, and their dynamic is one of complex push and pull, denying and hiding their love for their fear and not knowing how to show it even if they wanted to, only causing each other pain from a distance. And while I wouldn’t wholly disagree, I’d say that beneath the hurt, beneath the struggle, he is still the dad who believes in her and does everything he does bc he thinks it’ll protect her, and she is still the daughter who proudly follows in his steps and just wants to be by his side. They might keep each other away and feel as if they’ve lost and have to guard against one another, but they still both evidently care and hate that they do. Not knowing my dad and that whole thing of the white women, the American GI’s and all of these brown babies, there were thousands of them shipped across different orphanages.I found it really moving. A beautiful story of found and chosen family that follows a group of children as they try to save their home, a residential care home, when its residents stumble into the clutches of the sinister Fae. Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men."

I liked the way it was realistic, and at no point did I feel this world was fictional. If someone told me these places existed I would believe them, and I think that is excellent world building on the author's part. So I’m happy to report the latest offering from Adrienne Young, author of the Sky in the Deep duology, is an incredible adventure from beginning to end. I’m usually someone who struggles more with starting books than finishing them, but I fell right into Fable from the get-go. The title character, Fable, has been fending for herself for four years after being abandoned by her father without warning. She’s now seventeen and after surviving on Jeval, she’s ready to make her move to leave and seek out the only family she has left. She’s able to narrowly secure passage to the city of Ceros, but the crew Fable finds herself among on that journey end up being different than she’d expected. So when she came to me about this project she knew that I’d grown up in the care system because that’s what she’d read before in a book I’d been trying t get published for ages about being in the care system. I didn't like the writing of this book. This was my first by Adrienne Young, but I think I will still give her another chance.

About Emma Norry

The characters were so complex, it was almost inevitable to fall for them but man...they made me cry so much. I am so in love with every word author Winters write...its so poetical and touches your heart. The confessions of their heart, their refusal, consciousness...it feels so real...more like a movie playing behind my eyes. I am delighted to discover that a Fablehouse 2 is promised as the Roamers- Heather, Lloyd, Nat and Arlene- are such wonderful characters that it was hard to leave them behind when the story ended. ‘Fablehouse’ would make an excellent class story or guided reading text with plenty to enjoy, discuss and explore. Don’t miss it! As I mentioned earlier, the world was the only redeeming quality of this book. I felt it was well-developed, and it was something new to the typical YA stories. Fable by Adrienne Young, is a Young Adult novel with a unique setting. Unlike most YA books that I've read before, which are set in a Palace or a war zone, this one is set on a ship. Unfortunately, that's where my praise ends, because besides the different setting, there was nothing else about it that I liked.

I liked the crew of Marigold consisted of a group of young and lost teens, orphans , outcasts and Fable is strong, lovable heroine! The Hero: Kassen - he lives alone in the mansion, formerly called “Fables”. Kassen is a tortured soul who has buried his memories of a terrible past deep behind a wall within his mind. However, that wall has been breaking down more than ever and after capturing Gemma in his house, his walls seem paper thin. Her Father left her with nothing but these parting words: You're not cut out for this life. Those words continue to haunt her. It WOULD have been a BIG problem for me if Kassen had feelings for Quell, but nothing like that, it was purely platonic in a family kind of way. But then like it brings up the reason of WHAT WAS THE POINT OF MAKING THE HEROINE LOOK LIKE QUELL THEN?My mum thinks he’s Jamaican, pretty sure he is but when I was about 20 years-old she said she wasn’t sure as it could have been one of two guys. Listen well and listen close, because here is the cutting reality of a trader’s life: it is “a constant game of strategy,” a “never-ending maneuvering to get ahead” and an “insatiable hunger to want more. More coin. More ships. More crews.” Because “in the Narrows, nothing was what it seemed. Every truth was twisted. Every lie carefully constructed.” Yes, I just used a bunch of quotes to explain what I couldn’t word better, because no one can show the duplicity and slipperiness of this life, the inability to truly trust anything in it, better and more finely than Young herself.

I really felt his character could have been much more, but we didn't get to see that. I would have liked him to be better developed. A powerful and important book, bursting with hope and wonder. The fractured Beauty & the Beast love saga continues, but I wasn’t prepared for the extremes of this emotional rollercoaster. Gem’s caring stirs crippling emotions in unstable Kas, as well as resurfacing horrific memories of his past at Fables. The sadistic depravity and cruelty of it gutted me as much as their conflicted intimacy. There’s more to learn about his “family” of others at the mansion that made him afraid to love and the reason he never left, but she’s more afraid to let go of trying to save him and reach his heart. Gem leans in, but Kas leans away. Despite her attempts to draw him out, he resists for her sake and hides his love to protect her from him in a beautifully twisted way. My heart shredded for them. Fable is one of my new spirit animals!! I love her so much! She went through a lot in her young life and she’s just trying to find her way. A few years ago, her father left her on this horrible island to fend for herself. There were other people there but it was a pretty bad place.

West is the character who is supposed to be the 'love interest'. The only trait I spotted in him was the constant 'clenching of his jaw/fist/teeth'. He gets angry a lot of times, and I guess he is smart but that's all there is to West. I will take your heart. I will unearth all the love that you've supressed so, so deep inside you, and I will make you curse the very day you decided to trap me." No matter how much time passed, no matter how much pain he granted or blood he spilled, I would never curse him, betray him, or hate him. I would only love him. Love a broken beast who’d survived so much.” Gemma isn't even a licensed therapist to be handling all of his emotional damage. I can't with this. I just can't. “I wasn’t enough. I would never be enough to fix this man. He would drown. And I would drown with him.” Heather, Pal and friends set off to rescue children who have been taken to this threatening underworld. No child will be forgotten on their watch. Heather and friends realise they have been specially chosen for this quest. They must use the talents they've been given in the battle to save Fablehouse and all the children who have found shelter there.Pepper never fails to overwhelm me far exceeding my expectations, I honestly don’t know what sorcery her words play on me, I only know I don’t want it to end.
