About this deal

Indeed, this is a wine to return to again and again. Given the heat of 2022, the way the freshness and aromatics have been preserved is outstanding. A pale yellow at this stage, the aromas are of white flowers, with citrus depth and richness and a softly textured palate. A hint of salinity adds pleasure to a good long finish. Drinking brilliantly for one so young, yet this will also improve for maybe another five years. It’s bottled under a screwcap. Vineyards: The vineyards are located between 100 and 140 meters above sea level and they are south facing. The vine is trained in a single guyot. The morenic soil is a mix between limestone, clay and a small presence of gravel. The village is famous for two battles fought during the Italian Independence Wars: the first in 1848 and the second in 1866, both against the Austrian Empire. [4] In memory of them, the architect Giacomo Franco built the Ossuary of Custoza ( Italian: Ossario di Custoza), a war grave and memorial building opened in 1879. [5] [6] Geography [ edit ] It's an amazing country that's divided by so many different geographical elements, with the Alps to the north and the Dolomites running down through the centre to the volcanoes of the south, that creates, in turn, lots of different terroirs and vineyard spaces for different varieties to grow and to really find their home. Custoza DOC can only be produced from grapes from vineyards on the hills and foothills of the municipalities of its nine municipalities.

Monte del Fra, a three generation, family-owned winery, is one of the larger producers in the area. In 1958, the Bonomo family rented two rooms in an old 15th-century monastery as well as some land to cultivate wheat, strawberries, peaches and grapes.Chardonnay Wine | Chenin Blanc Wine | Grauburgunder Wine | Gewürztraminer Wine | Pinot Grigio Wine | Sauvginon Blanc Wine | Soave Wine | Torrontes Wine | Viognier Wine | Weißburgunder Wine

It's actually a very beautiful volcanic area that's UNESCO world-recognised, producing gorgeous sparkling wines at different price points that I hope you enjoy. Marica’s cousin Silvia helps visitors experience picnics in the vineyards; blind and vertical wine tastings; cooking classes showcasing local recipes for handmade Tortellini di Valeggio, Amarone Risotto and Sfogliatine from Villafranca (a donut shaped pastry); and organizes events pairing wine with music, art, or yoga for small groups. In the glass, the wine has an intense straw yellow color with shimmers of gold. The first sip cleanses the mouth; subsequent ones remind you that you’re thirsty.

The Custoza DOC region has a predominantly Mediterranean and temperate climate. It enjoys moderately cold winters and hot summers that aren't overly hot. The surrounding Lake Garda softens this a little. These circumstances produce a good environment for the production of vines. The elevation of the land and the chilly, nighttime air create the ideal growing conditions for grapes. White fruit, crunchy yellow notes, and citrus notes are particularly enhanced by this climate. Garda moraines were created by soil deposits from the Paleogene's end when there were several ice ages. The mountains that surround the Benaco are made up of debris that came down from the mountains and was carried by the glacier's melting waters. These waters, which are rich in minerals and carbonates, give the wine its distinctive and much-desired saline note. Grapes Varietals of Custoza wine appellation Slightly further south and more to the east, we get montepulciano coming in, which again has some of these lovely red-berry fruit flavours, but slightly lower tannin levels.

Recommended previously also in The Sunday Times as a “party wine that won’t give you a headache.” They can’t all be wrong, can they’ The colour is so lovely I could happily just look at it let alone drink it. Forget the old, sweet unfashionable rosés of the past; this is a dry, refreshing blend of predominantly Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre which has no oak aging. Deliciously thirst-quenching, strawberry fruit flavours. You will not want to put it down. The specification grants it from 0 to 30 percent. In the twentieth century, Custoza was included among the best wine areas in the western portion of the province of Verona in a 1939 study conducted by the Experimental Viticulture and Enology Station of Conegliano, demonstrating the oenologic vocation of the area.
