About this deal

Our recent research with pasture fed horses showed that CoolStance is a “slow feed” because it does not cause a glucose spike when fed twice a day. The oil industry has many by-products that are used in animal feeds. They are often useful additions to a healthy diet. Coconut oil is made from the white flesh of the coconut, not the husk or the hull. Copra is a byproduct. Copra can often turn brownish due to processing and is not as bright as store-bought coconut. It has a lovely oil content which interestingly has virtually no omega 3 or 6, so it won’t unbalance your omega ratios. It is also predominantly medium chain fatty acids which are unique and have some advantages over long chain fatty acids for digestion and metabolism.

CoolStance Copra meal contains 8-10% oil as coconut oil, and only 11% NSC which makes it a unique feed for horses. Coconut oil is very different from many of the other vegetable oils commonly fed to horses. Coconut oil is highly saturated, which makes it very stable (ie. not prone to rancidity). Coconut oil also has a high content of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA), which provide a ready source of non glucose energy for exercise. Coconut oil is also rich in the fatty acid "lauric acid" which possess antibacterial, antifungal and antiprotozoal properties. This may be of benefit to immune function. It is high in phosphorus. It is not unique in this respect. All grains, legumes, oilseeds and their by-products are high in phosphorus. On this, here is what you need to remember… no single ingredient is a perfect diet. CoolStance® is brown because the white meat of the coconut has been heated during processing to extract the coconut oil. Second, the feed may have a zinc-to-copper ratio imbalance that hay cannot remedy. Some copra meal can be rich in copper but average in zinc. A zinc-to-copper ratio between 3:1 and 5:1 is ideal, but some copra can have a ratio as low as 2:1. Like the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, the appropriate zinc-to-copper ratio is vital for proper development of young horses. Adding a vitamin and mineral supplement may help with this mineral imbalance, especially one reasonably high in zinc.Depending on your soil, grass and hay profile, Cool Stance® needs to be fed with a balanced mineral and vitamin supplement. Most soils are too depleted to provide horses with adequate minerals and vitamins. We recommend Medicine Bag Complete as a valuable choice. It starts with the enlargement of the pituitary gland at the base of the brain – either through a benign tumour or hypertrophy through over activity which then starts a cascade of hormonal events throughout the body. The pituitary gland is a master controlling gland that sends out hormones to other glands in the body to keep metabolic and endocrine systems working properly. Most of the clinical signs of this condition are related to excess hormone from the pituitary gland affecting the adrenal glands near the kidney. Perfect for Performance and Gastric Health: Owners with horses in hard work will appreciate CoolStance’s benefits as a readily available source of energy. The Lauric acid in coconut oil provides added advantages for horses with or prone to gastric ulcers, thanks to it being associated with having antimicrobial, antiviral and immune-boosting effects. For enhanced protection, CoolStance can be combined with Ulcabuf. Rest assured, CoolStance is completely free of prohibited substances, and we consistently perform batch testing and aflatoxin testing regulated by FEMAS, ensuring the highest quality standards. Trust CoolStance Copra as the natural, reliable choice for your equine companion’s health and performance

When looking at the protein content of a feed, you must consider it as part of a complete diet. Cool Stance is a high protein feed (21% crude protein), however it is designed to be fed in conjunction with lower protein feeds like grass hay. Therefore when considered as part of a complete diet, CoolStance makes a valuable contribution to satisfying a horse’s protein requirements in what may otherwise be a diet which is marginal or even deficient in protein. Read more Which horses can you feed CoolStance® to?For horses with metabolic problems or horses not engaged in demanding jobs, a fat and fibre diet is a good choice. However, horses who are performing well may require more NSC to ensure they have enough energy. This problem can be solved by adding starch to the diet, such as sweet feeds or straight cereal grains to increase energy levels. Many of these problems can be balanced in a concentrate that contains only part copra. If it’s quality copra meal, regularly tested for aflatoxin (a mycotoxin that commonly contaminates copra meal) and not burnt during the drying/oil extraction process then it is great stuff. In a similar way to management of an EMS diagnosed horse or pony, laminitis is a condition that should be managed as a form of prevention. Laminitis is a complex disease where the laminae in the hoof, which are the structures responsible for suspending the horses pedal bone from the hoof wall, become inflamed. When the laminae inflame, they lose their integrity and allow the weight of the horse to drive the pedal bone downward through the hoof, damaging arteries, veins, the corium of the coronet and the sole of the hoof. Once the pedal bone moves, the condition is then referred to as founder. Weight, diet and exercise are all important factors to consider when managing a horse or pony prone to laminitis. If a horse or pony has laminitis due to being overweight, we would recommend offering reduced amounts of CoolStance Copra until the horse’s weight has been successfully managed. Due to Copra being low in sugar and starch, it is a suitable choice for a laminitis prone horse. The copra meal previously known in Australia as Cool Fuelis produced by suitably accredited and audited coconut oil mills.. This copra meal is of very high quality and has been safely fed to horses and cattle in Australia for over 20 years under the Cool Fuellabel. This premium copra meal was rebranded by Stance Globaland is now exclusively available as CoolStance. This copra meal is regularly tested for nutrient and antitoxin content. It is of assured quality. Whilst the name has changed, the feed has stayed the same, and will continue to be of the same high quality. Oil is the most useful non starch source of extra energy for athletic horses. It contains 2 to 3 times more energy than starch or protein and once horses have adapted to it, oil is well accepted, digested and metabolized. Horses readily adapt to oil-rich diets and burn it to produce valuable energy for their muscles during medium and high intensity exercise. CoolStance Copra is one of the very few feeds that is low in NSC, high in fibre and a great source of digestible energy.

We recommend mixing CoolStance Copra with one-part CoolStance to three-parts water. The recommended weights in the table below are dry weights, before mixing with water. I would like permission to share with you the technical aspects and experiences of CoolStance as to how and why it is fed. I have joined other forum groups in the past such at Equines Eating Well to help answer some of the questions being asked.Copra has been blamed for impaction colic and other gastrointestinal distress, but this has mostly been attributed to intake of copra without adequate water. When fed as a meal, it is best to soak copra prior to being fed or at least serve it mixed with water (three parts water to one part copra). The commercial feeds that are mostly or entirely copra can be fed dry but water availability is crucial. Palatability is generally very good, but consumption is notably better when fed wet. CoolStance® does not contain any husk or shell. It is made from the white meat of the coconut. High fibre (20%) comes from the flesh of the coconut. Provide fresh, clean water away from the CoolStance feeder to ensure the horses leave the feed trough. This should be done for all feeds, as it will slow down the rate of eating and assist digestion.
