About this deal

His mother was a formative influence on his life, encouraging him to attend church as often as possible. In addition to his passion for his family and his calling to share God's Word, Bob and Debby shared a deep passion for the orphans of Romania. They first went to Romania in 1991, and in the last 28 years they built a transition home called The Village of Hope. Through this ministry they have rescued over 5,000 children from the streets, the sex-trade, and orphanages and placed them into loving homes. Bob Gass, who sadly passed away on 5 June 2019, and his wife, Debby, are the authors of The Word for Today. Initially, The Word for Today began when Bob became aware of the struggles of United Christian Broadcasters in the United Kingdom during his 1991 visit to his homeland.

Bob was an itinerant preacher having a TV show for a time in the United States. When he married his incredible wife Debby in 1991 he was given a prophecy. It said that his writing would reach more people than his preaching ever would. Soon afterwards the UCB Word of Today began with a print run of 3500. As times changed Bob’s printed writings went to 400,000 people every quarter and quarterly digital reach to over 7.6 million people. Furthermore, divine love doesn’t just give you ‘warm fuzzies’. It’s constantly at work to direct you towards making wise decisions, to protect you from making poor ones, and to correct you when you make bad ones. God’s love guarantees His acceptance when all others have rejected you, His forgiveness when all others have judged you, and His mercy when all others have condemned you. A wedding day message from God: ‘You will reach more people through your writing, than you will in all the years of your preaching.’

Debby co-authored the daily devotions in The Word for Today, and Bob’s sister, Ruth, serves as a research assistant. Together, they have written a decade’s worth of devotionals ready for future publications of The Word for Today. Millions of people throughout the world receive The Word for Today quarterly — and testimonies flood in, demonstrating how many lives are blessed by it. It all began in 1992, when Bob began jotting down inspiration he’d received from more than 40 years of being involved in Christian leadership, and from the Biblical principles and Godly values instilled in him by his mother. When you don’t have the answer. ‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know’ (Jeremiah 33:3). Over many years, the devotional has impacted millions of lives and although today is a sad day of loss, we are also thankful for the incredible legacy Bob has left behind.

The Word For Today is freely given to anyone who asks! We are able to do this through the generous donations of other readers, who desire you and others to receive the devotional for free. Growing up as a young man in Belfast, my mother was the driving force in our lives. She was one of the greatest Christians I ever knew, with an amazing conversion experience. She came into the kingdom at a hundred miles an hour and she never slowed down. She took her family in one hand and her faith in the other, and said, ‘we are going to serve the Lord.’ She came into the Kingdom at a hundred miles an hour,’ Bob once wrote ‘and never slowed down. She took her family in one hand and her faith in the other, and said, “we are going to serve the Lord.” Bob always described his mother as a formative influence in his life, encouraging him to attend church as often as possible. When you need power for service. ‘He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do … that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it’ (John 14:12-14 NKJV). When you need God’s blessing in your endeavours. ‘I will make them and the places around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing’ (Ezekiel 34:26 NKJV). Once you see the results of praying God’s promises, you will never pray any other way. You’ve probably seen people make terrible decisions when they were drained, tired, discouraged, and afraid, which they would never have made otherwise. Generally speaking, you won’t choose the right course of action when you’re in the wrong frame of mind. When you have an important decision to make, sometimes the wisest thing you can do is—wait until you’re rested. An anxious mind in an exhausted body can lead to a terrible decision. When we spend time with God in daily Bible study, He gives us courage and faith, even in the middle of changing times.
