The coding will be available on “definitive” stamps – the regular everyday stamps featuring the profile of the Queen. Non-coded definitive and Christmas stamps will remain valid until January 2023. We have had the pleasure of creating these films featuring these much-loved characters over the last 40 years, so it is a real honour for the studio to receive this royal stamp of approval. Lord, 67, and Sproxton, 68, began to gain widespread recognition after creating the now-highly recognisable shape-shifting clay character Morph for the BBC’s Take Hart series. Wallace and Gromit tangle with a serial killer in A Matter of Loaf & Death, a short film made in 2008.
It is the first in a series of planned videos to be released during 2022 that will allow customers sending stamped mail to choose which one the recipient can see when they receive an item of mail. Aardman is a very British success story, a creator of extremely clever and influential films with international appeal Aardman was co-founded by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, who were friends at school. Their first films were animated on the Sproxtonsʼ kitchen table, and they were still teenagers when one was shown on BBC television.

First day covers and stamp cards are available as usual, along with a press sheet of 12 unguillotined miniature sheets. This is a sheet of only 8 stamps, ie the full set with no duplication. It's self-adhesive, so the stamps may not be materially different to those in sheets. Wallace and Gromit foil the scheme of a criminal mastermind in The Wrong Trousers, a short film made in 1993. In addition to the eight stamps, an exclusive miniature sheet, created specially for Royal Mail by Aardman, will also be available. Aardman was founded by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, who began their animation partnership while at school when they created a character called Aard-man, which the BBC bought for its Vision On series and marked the creation of Aardman Animations. Key moments on the stamps include those from Wallace and Gromit animated short films A Matter Of Loaf And Death, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Grand Day Out. Cheese-loving inventor Wallace may have endless optimism, but his faithful hound Gromit is the brains of the operation, coming to his masterʼs rescue whenever necessary. After becoming national icons in a series of short films, the duo found worldwide fame in the comedic horror feature film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005.

Stop-motion animation utilises three-dimensional models made from flexible materials, such as clay, often built around a wire skeleton. They are moved in tiny increments, usually 12 times for every second of film, giving the companyʼs films a distinctive hand-made feel.
