About this deal

As marine science and biology have advanced a great deal since this was written some elements are quite wrong. That never distracts from the beauty of the writing, nor from the enthusiasm Rachel brings to her topics, a lot of the classifications are still sound. But, not quite all of them and if you are reading this book without having prior knowledge of the topic, that is really worth bearing in mind. The friends for the live set of Terry De Castro & Friends were an additional vocalist (Astrid Williamson), bassist (Melanie Howard), drummer (Nicholas Wellauer) and percussionist (Will Thomas). Terry explained that her eight tune performance was “songs about love and demise of love”. Musically the set was beautifully crafted Americana pop songs. Before a cover of The Smiths song ‘London’ Terry explained that she “countrified covers”. Happisburgh is an English village with thousands of years of history but for decades it has been slowly falling into the sea. Areas most at risk of sudden change are those where hurricanes and tropical storms make landfall before they wreak havoc on coastal and inland communities. Is the UK at particular risk?

Carson is also a frequent namesake for prizes awarded by philanthropic, educational and scholarly institutions. The Rachel Carson Prize, founded in Stavanger, Norway in 1991, is awarded to women who have made a contribution in the field of environmental protection. The American Society for Environmental History has awarded the Rachel Carson Prize for Best Dissertation since 1993. Since 1998, the Society for Social Studies of Science has awarded an annual Rachel Carson Book Prize for "a book length work of social or political relevance in the area of science and technology studies." Nowhere on the shore is the relation of a creature to its surroundings a matter of a single cause and effect; each living thing is bound to its world by many threads, weaving the intricate design of the fabric of life." (p.20) has been involved in Gaelic Music for most of his adult life in one capacity or another. Calum has recorded as a solo artist with the release of two all Gaelic albums: The Megantic Outlaw in 1983 and Gael Force in 1988 before commencing a new career as a full time Gaelic Music Instructor in Primary and Secondary schools on the Isle of Lewis in 1992. This book is much more poetic in style, much more literary in feel that all of her other work that I have read. SO it took a bit of a mind leap to move from the cadence of the first book to the second. When you read it it right way though it is breathtaking, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The UK is at greater risk than other countries in Europe because, as an island, it has 11,000 miles of coastline and it is buffeted each winter by storms barrelling across the Atlantic and the North Sea. Before her landmark 1962 book Silent Spring catalyzed the environmental movement by alerting the world to the devastating effects of chemical pesticides, Rachel Carson achieved an international reputation as a “poet of the sea,” author of a trilogy of celebrated books about the world’s oceans. Lyrical, deeply personal, and rigorously researched, these three classics of American science and nature writing are now collected in this deluxe Library of America volume. Songs from the Sea: The Sea Kingdom • What's It Like to Be a Mermaid? • The Scuttle Strut • There's Only One Ariel • He's a Friend • At the Mermaids' Ball • Party With Me • My Room in the Sea • Dreaming • H2O, What a Feeling! • We Share the Earth • Where Mermaids Dwell

Walkers were urged to avoid the beach at Mundesley in 2021 after a landslide saw a huge section of a cliff wall tumble onto the sand. From coastal wiki) The strip of land that extends from the coastline inland to the first major change in the terrain features, which are not influenced by the coastal processes. The main types of coastal features are dunes, cliffs and low-lying areas, possibly protected by dikes or seawalls. A small headland appears to have disappeared and Beach Road which leads to it has been cut in half, while new cliffs have been gouged out of the seafront. Mundesley, Norfolk The sketches, by Bob Hines, of marine animals who live there are extremely helpful. The Appendix: classification is a great reference. I doubt I could have gotten throught the book otherwise, in spite of the beautiful prose. Music: The Legacy Collection • Sebastian from The Little Mermaid • Sebastian: Party Gras! • The Little Mermaid: Songs from the Sea • The Little Mermaid: Splash Hits • Ariel's Favorites

England in particular has some of the fastest eroding coastlines in the continent, with soft and sandy east coasts of Norfolk and Yorkshire at the greatest risk, but it also affects other parts of the country including Cumbria, Cornwall and Devon. Beach = Shore, but flat and usually with at least some sand or very small stones. The more sand, the better the beach! Though Carson goes into the minutia of sea potatoes, lonely snails, and various kelp, her book reads more like poetry than scientific musings. Consider: Then David reminded everybody “We don’t do encores”. Something anybody who has been The Wedding Present live would know. There are a lot of people who made ‘At The Edge Of The Sea’ possible. The well-deserved list of thank you’s from David included the bands, their crews, those on the merch stall and those who made online steam possible. After saying “See you next year. We’ll leave you with this one” David realised he hadn’t introduced his band. I’m sure everybody knew who they were, but that wasn’t the point. Unsurprisingly each band member got a massive cheer as their name was called out.
