The Comic Strip, a group of British comedians, produced two extreme parodies of the Famous Five for Channel 4 television: Five Go Mad in Dorset, broadcast in 1982, [g] and Five Go Mad on Mescalin, broadcast the following year. [1] A third in the series, Five Go to Rehab, was broadcast on Sky in 2012. [168] In fact, I think I would rank Angela and Gwedoline as perhaps the two Blyton characters I would see the least hope for in terms of improvement - although Gwen does at the very end show a possibility of improvement. Capitalising on her success, with a loyal and ever-growing readership, [15] Blyton produced a new edition of many of her series such as the Famous Five, the Five Find-Outers and St. Clare's every year in addition to many other novels, short stories and books. In 1946 Blyton launched the first in the Malory Towers series of six books based around the schoolgirl Darrell Rivers, First Term at Malory Towers, which became extremely popular, particularly with girls. [45] Peak output: 1949–1959 [ edit ] Blyton's range of plots and settings has been described as limited, repetitive and continually recycled. [72] Many of her books were critically assessed by teachers and librarians, deemed unfit for children to read, and removed from syllabuses and public libraries. [7] Responding to claims that her moral views were "dependably predictable", [133] Blyton commented that "most of you could write down perfectly correctly all the things that I believe in and stand for– you have found them in my books, and a writer's books are always a faithful reflection of himself". [134]

Greenfield, George (1995), A Smattering of Monsters: A Kind of Memoir, Camden House, ISBN 978-1-57113-071-6 The Second Form at St. Clares is the fourth novel in the St. Clare's series of children's school stories by Enid Blyton. The series is about the boarding school adventures of twin girls Patricia and Isabel O'Sullivan. Their form mistress is now Miss Jenks and they no longer have to bear the severeness of the first form mistress, Miss Roberts – who is extremely sarcastic and firm but can be kind when she feels like to, a bit like Mam'zelle, the French teacher that used to teach and is still teaching the girls. In book one, the twins are simply not having it. St Clare's is beneath them and they're determined to cause a stir. But life at St Clare's is not as easy as they thought. The Enchanted Lands", Genome Project: Radio Times 1923–2009, no.3847, BBC, 23 October 1997, p.88 , retrieved 25 February 2018 Noddy to be launched in China", M2 Best Books, 15 March 2004, archived from the original on 11 June 2014 , retrieved 28 March 2014Far more serious to my mind are occasional plot lapses that create an impossible situation. There is a serious lapse in the action chapters towards the end of "Five on a Treasure Island" which I must admit rather spoils the story for me, as it would not be easy to fix without upsetting other aspects of the story. I am not sure whether I should describe it here and maybe spoil the story for others, but no-one else has ever mentioned it to my knowledge.

I won't for the moment describe what these plot holes are - some may find it an enjoyable puzzle to try to work out what they might be. But, if asked, I will describe them, perhaps preceded by a prominent "SPOILER" warning. The term passes by eventfully, and Anna becomes a surprisingly popular head girl, throwing aside her laziness. When Elsie is stripped of her position, Anna takes to her new position of sole head girl with a new-found enthusiasm and discovers she actually enjoys the sense of responsibility she feels at helping others and setting a good example. When Mrs Theobald refuses to let Mirabel send a telegram home asking for her violin, mistakenly thinking that Mirabel has only stopped misbehaving because she has got tired of it, she confides in Anna, who goes to see the Headmistress and explains to her that Mirabel is in fact ashamed of herself and wants to do better. As a result of Anna's directness, Mirabel is allowed to send the telegram and Anna is admired and respected by all of the other girls for performing such a kindly act. In 1960 alone, eleven Noddy books were published, including the strip books Noddy and the Runaway Wheel, Noddy's Bag of Money, and Noddy's Car Gets into Trouble. Well, if we want to find realistic aspects of her stories to defend her, this to me is clearly one of them. In fact, for Angela to resolve to improve and then not to seems so ordinary to me that I would never have even thought of raising a question about it.

Twins Pat and Isabel are disappointed when they have to miss the first week of the new term. But they soon settle down again, and the summer term brings all sorts of excitement and several new girls, some of whom are less popular than others.Rudd, David (2004), "Blytons, Noddies, and Denoddification Centers: The Changing Constructions of a Cultural Icon", in Walt, Thomas Van der; Fairer-Wessels, Felicité; Inggs, Judith (eds.), Change and Renewal in Children's Literature, Greenwood Publishing Group, pp.111–118, ISBN 978-0-275-98185-3 Karena keduanya bersetting di sekolah berasrama, jadi beberapa plot, tema dan karakter/wataknya nyaris sama. Intinya ada anak manja atau berperangai buruk yg dikirim bersekolah di tempat yg tidak mereka sukai. Setelah bbrp lama, tabiat mereka akan membaik. The first term of the second form turns out to be an eventful one, with new girls Gladys and Mirabel revealing unsuspected talents for acting and music, while Elsie, the form's unpopular Head Girl, learns to be less spiteful. From a bad beginning which includes a fight with one of the teachers, the twins' better sides become apparent and they begin blending a little and enjoying the reactions of their educators to the japes of one irrepressible girl in their class. As in our own schools there are some extremely talented students at St Clare's and you will be amazed by their prowess. There is a class-clown and a brilliant one at that. You'll meet her. Pat and Isabel even attend an enormous birthday supper which includes such delicacies as sardines, a pork pie, a cake with almond icing surrounded with sugar-roses, peppermint creams, and to make it more exciting it takes place at 12a.m — (yes a.m) and it's all strictly against the rules but who cares?

Overall, this first of this series shows that the O'Sullivan spirit is present and previously undiscovered qualities could emerge which might catapult the twins into higher stratospheres — but that's another tale to be told.
