About this deal

The outsole on this model also provides a nice level of traction which I was a fan of. The Reebok HIIT TR’s outsole did a good job at providing you with traction, but the refined and reworked rubber tread on the Reebok HIIT 2 takes the edge slightly here. I never felt like I was losing traction on wood floors, rubber gym mats, or when training outdoors. Reebok HIIT 2 for Running and Daily Wear If you have additional questions on the sizing and fit of the Reebok HIIT 2, drop a comment below and I can help you size your shoes accordingly. Reebok HIIT 2 Vs Reebok HIIT TR Whether you’re regularly hitting the weight section of the gym or doing a cardio-heavy HIIT class, you need a decent pair of gym trainers to help you to get the most from your workout. Trust me, as someone who’s tried and tested practically every sweat-inducing gym class in London (from Barry’s Bootcamp and 1Rebel to The Foundry, Third Space and Psycle), wearing the same pair of running trainers you wear at the weekend for parkrun sadly won’t cut it when it comes to squats, deadlifts and burpees (and, spoiler: neither will that old pair of Stan Smiths). The HIIT 2’s bootie construction does not stretch which I discussed in the cons sections above. You can even see the difference in material features in the image below. The right model, the HIIT 2’s bootie feature virtually no elastic components. For lifting weights, the Reebok HIIT 2 does surprisingly well. When you have cross-training shoes dedicated to HIIT workouts it’s normal to see their lifting performance go down slightly. In the Reebok HIIT 2, their performance does fairly well for what this shoe offers and if you get this model for casual weight lifting, then I think you’ll like them.

On a daily wear basis, this model works well and is overall pretty comfortable. This shoe reminds me a lot of the Reebok Nano X1’s feel for daily wear, but I would actually grab this model over the X1 because it does have a slight edge for being a bit plusher comparatively speaking. Plus, the price point makes this a good shoe for beating up as a daily driver. Traction refers to the friction between the sole of your shoe and the ground that allows you to move with agility and prevents you from sliding or otherwise losing momentum. The first con is just the overall durability of this shoe. The upper isn’t constructed with as heavy stitching and material as other cross-training shoes, so long-term durability may be an issue with this model. However, I think for the price point, the construction is okay and works as a whole and for many, this likely won’t be the hugest issue as I haven’t run into durability issues yet. Designed to offer a range of benefits across the whole span of functional training disciplines, the Metcon 7 (a blending of 'metabolic' and 'conditioning', if you were wondering) has some nice features added to it. Using an HC durometer, we discovered that the outsole of this shoe has a rating of 85.5, which is higher than the 84.4 average. The firmness of the sole allowed it to resist punctures caused by pebbles and other debris that are commonly seen on outdoor surfaces. Why we love them: Developed as a cross-training shoe, the Metcon 8 is designed for tough workouts, gym sessions, and classes where you typically make a lot of sharp, aggressive and lateral movements. It features a flat sole for stability during weightlifting exercises, and a flexible forefoot for agility during functional exercises. The Metcon 8 also has a sturdy upper that can handle rope climbs, box jumps, and other demanding movements. It is suitable for those who perform a variety of exercises in the gym and need a shoe that can handle the demands of their workouts. With any type of trainer, comfort is key – look for lightweight, breathable gym trainers that will keep you comfortable throughout your workout. The Reebok HIIT 2 is an all-around solid HIIT shoe. I like the addition of the Reebok Floatride Energy Foam in this shoe’s midsole and think it’s a good addition for this shoe line. The Floatride Energy Foam gives this shoe a much more responsive feel and it walks a good line between stability and versatility.

The best gym trainers for you depend on your activity of choice, but in general, you’ll want to ask yourself the following:The Floatride Energy Foam does a better job at supporting a wide range of activities while also keeping the shoe comfortable. Plus, it feels like a higher quality material compared to the previous midsole materials used in the Reebok HIIT TR shoe line. This model works best for HIIT, classes, and light recreational lifting. Tabata’s original protocol has morphed in many directions. Yet, at its core, the HIIT program involves alternating short periods of high-intensity, all-out exercise with short intervals of rest or active recovery. Who is HIIT for? If your HIIT workout involves jumping to the sides, such as when doing lateral jumping lunges, the traction of your sole is going to determine whether you perform the action fluidly or whether you end up sliding, and potentially twisting an ankle. A responsive midsole is a key requirement for a functional HIIT shoe. While you need a stable shoe, you also don’t want your foot to feel trapped and uncomfortable. The midsole, then, needs to be able to find a balance between stability and responsiveness. When we were at the gym, we truly appreciated the amount of give that this shoe offered. Sprints, jumps, and even simple jogs in place were a lot easier to execute because the shoe just followed the natural flexions of our feet. After manually twisting the shoe in the lab, this shoe got a score of 1 out of 5 for torsional rigidity.

Most shoe manufacturers do not have a separate HIIT shoe category. But they will have a cross-training shoe category. Cross-training shoes are designed to meet that middle ground between a weight training shoe and a running shoe to meet the versatile needs of the average gymgoer. The final pro that comes along with the Reebok HIIT TR is its overall lightweight construction. I thought Reebok did a good job at blending all of the materials in this model into a nice seamless lightweight build. It makes this shoe a joy to wear for agility training, HIIT workouts, and other versatile training where you want a lightweight shoe to accommodate performance. Reebok HIIT TR Cons The Dropset Trainer is a tremendously stable shoe that keeps our feet well-supported over the course of our HIIT workouts, whether we're doing burpees jump squats, or mountain climbers. That's mainly due to its impressively wide platform, particularly in the forefoot. We measured its midsole width in the forefoot to be 5.7 mm wider than the average training shoe. And thanks to its TPU sidewalls, it also scored a 4 out of 5 in torsional stability, where 5 is the stiffest. Personally, I like this for HIIT training because we don’t always want a super plush shoe for this style of training especially when doing plyometrics and other bounding activities. Whether you’re doing lateral jumps, box jumps, or ballistic movements, this model’s midsole provides enough support without losing its stability edge. From the explosive way you move in a circuit training session to the joint-impacting steps you take during a treadmill workout, your gym shoes need to cater to your workout. What's the difference between running trainers and gym trainers? In the Reebok HIIT 2, I’ve trained up to 315 lbs and they did an okay job at supporting that load without a ton of compression. I wouldn’t train much heavier than this weight, however, for what this shoe is and its price I feel 315 lbs is a pretty good threshold especially for those buying this shoe primarily for classes and HIIT workouts. The Adidas Dropset Trainer is our top stability training shoe for HIIT workouts as we felt it delivers outstanding support while doing dynamic movements. It is also very flexible and immensely breathable, which make it such a hit for HIIT workouts. It's a lightweight shoe, coming in at 240g (8.4oz) for men and 200g (7.05.oz) for women, but still maintains a fair bit of cushioning on the outsole – good for high impact training like jumping around or short sprints on the treadmill. According to a footwear insider, you should think about how you move in your workouts to help pinpoint which trainers will suit your sweats.

Nike SupreRep 3 uses a pair of bouncy Zoom Air units under the ball of the foot. It protects the wearer's legs without making the platform too plush or unstable. There are multiple pros to like about the Reebok HIIT 2 with both its construction and performance. Below are my favorite things about the Reebok HIIT 2. When you’re doing a HIIT workout, you do not want as much heel-to-toe drop as a weightlifting, or even a running, shoe. The forward angle will instantly detract from your stability. To ensure that your weight remains centered and your foot stable, look for a shoe with a heel-to-toe drop of around 4-6 mm (but no more than 8 mm).

The heel, for its part, compressed quite well. It registered 20.5 on the HA durometer while the average is as high (or firm) as 27.0. The softness that the heel delivered neutralized the impact of our sprints, jumps, and other nimble movements.
