The primary function of moisturisers is to prevent moisture loss from the skin and increase overall hydration levels. The best types of moisturisers are those that contain ingredients from all three groups of moisturiser type: emollients, humectants and occludents. Products containing this triple moisturising technology are able to more effectively mimic the skin’s natural moisturising action, to smooth the skin surface and increase water content in the epidermis.[2-6] Emollients, such as silicones, hydrate and improve the appearance of the skin by contributing to skin softness and smoothness.
