About this deal

I mentioned that the biggest change to the ALPHACAT NITRO is the addition of PUMA’s flagship NITRO foam. Often found on the brand’s running line, NITRO is an extremely lightweight but stable foam. Introducing the new Puma Alphacat Nitro Golf Shoes, a spikeless shoe with premium cushioning that provides explosive energy and propulsion with each step. We’ll take a closer look at the benefits (if any) of this design change. You’ll also notice a new heel cup among other cosmetic changes. The real question remains: Do these changes create a better golf shoe?

The original PUMA ALPHACAT had great traction, hence the high marks for traction in our Best Spikeless Golf Shoes 2023 testing. The new PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO uses some of the same toolings with the addition of a new radial traction pattern near the ball of the foot. Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility. They are perfect for driving in the car to the golf course, playing a round, and then driving home again because they are usually light and comfortable, but most won't offer as much traction as a spiked shoe. The shoe's upper is an EXO shell made up of an engendered mesh complete with TPU film, giving the shoe added structure and support whilst ensuring that it is waterproof, with a one-year guarantee. This is very comfortable once you're wearing them as there's no pinching around the top of the foot, but it does take a little bit of getting used to. The overall shaping just seems to scrunch the toes rather than let them naturally spread. PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO Spikeless Golf Shoes: Marked Improvement One thing it seems PUMA has yet to figure out is the shaping of the toe box area on their golf shoes. From the top down, the PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO has an extremely narrow and pointed toe. The resulting fit would definitely cause someone with a wider foot than mine pain and discomfort. When it comes to the right fit it is also worth considering different laces. Normal laces are good for most but for some golfers, BOA laced shoes provide more convenient fastening and shouldn’t loosen during the course of a round, but are usually a tad more expensive. The reason for this is because golf shoe technology is so good these days that golfers can experience the relaxed, lightweight comfort that these shoes offer, without losing out on traction or support in comparison to a spiked option.

Some brands try too hard to put their own twist on the golf shoe with no regard for performance. Often this shows up in what I refer to as “storytelling”, where a brand attempts to tell a “story” with its design instead of designing around performance. When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside. This creates a platform above the sole of the shoe which provides impact resistance and energy return whilst still retaining ground feel.I put mine on twenty minutes before the round during my testing and even kept them on whilst we waited out a weather delay in the clubhouse, and the Alphacat were just as comfortable on the course as they were while I ate my club sandwich and chips! This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on. The GS-Fast comes with a wide rubber outsole that is littered with a ton of small rubber studs. That means these shoes are better used as a summer golf shoe but still performed very well in slightly soft autumnal conditions with their grippy outsole providing solid traction on the turf. They are also completely waterproof and are very easy to wipe down after your round. PUMA’s ALPHACAT golf shoe has been around for a while. But now PUMA’s upgrading their mainline ALPHACAT spikeless golf shoes with the introduction of NITRO foam. For over 70 years Puma has proven itself to be a firm leader in the sports lifestyle industry, particularly with its lines of footwear, apparel and accessories for golfers of all ages. Their incredible golf shoe designs are known for being on the cutting edge of modern design and technology, helping the brand to garner a loyal following amongst both professional and amateur golfers.

PUMA golf shoes include performance-enhancing features designed to improve your game. Our revolutionary IGNITEFOAM midsole provides maximum energy-return and responsive comfort, while our proprietary studded sole system offers 3-dimensional traction to ensure peak-performance throughout the full 18 holes. Play your best round in comfort and style with golf shoes and trainers from PUMA. Thankfully modern golf shoe design has seen many brands not just create traditional, classic-looking shoes, but also modern styles that can be used off the golf course too. Therefore it is important to think about what your shoes look like and what style suits you. Whatever you like or dislike, there is something for everyone these days. FAQs Are Puma good golf shoes? The Proadapt outsole not only looks cool but also does an important job of providing traction on both soft and hard surfaces due to the two distinct patterns.Puma have been one of the major players in keeping this trend going in recent years, as they have a wide range of models available which blur the lines between casual, fashion-conscious trainers and functional golf shoes. The PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO is the antithesis of this notion. See that giant PUMA stripe logo near the heel? I was worried that this was simply a cosmetic change to enhance the branding and storytelling of the shoe. Instead, PUMA made this a fully functional heel counter that aids in lateral stability.
