About this deal

Fill your garden with a delightful fragrance from this deciduous shrub which boasts large, double white flowers.

Philadelphus 'Virginal' – beautiful, double flowers with a beautiful scent. Height x Spread: 3m x 2.5m As far as flower differences go, some are double or have coloured centres, but generally, the overwhelming impression is of a profusion of white blooms. Choose one that appeals most.

This variety has an arching habit, especially in mid-summer when it is laden with pure white, highly-scented flowers. It’s spread can be greater than its height, reaching 2 metres (7 feet). Philadelphus ‘Beauclerk’ Usually, the plant growth rate during the spring and summer when the weather is warm and there is plenty of rainfall. However, they can also grow well during the fall and winter if the conditions are right. They need a lot of sunlight to grow well, so they do best in areas that get plenty of sun. Common Problems Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

It is an ideal plant for a large container on your patio, but make sure you position it near your house so that the gorgeous scent can drift into your home and be enjoyed indoors too. This Philadelphus also offers huge versatility working well in both a formal planting scheme and cottage style garden. The spring foliage of the Philadelphus Coronarius Aureus emerges a bright yellow and then fades to a chartreuse green when mature. During the early summer months, it offers up a display of abundant white flowers that many says have a slight lemon fragrance. It grows to a height to 1 ½ metres but can be pruned to a smaller size. The Philadelphus Coronarius Aureus grows well in partial shade which makes the hardy shrub an excellent choice for a woodland garden. It grows well in areas up to a zone H-6 hardiness. Its toughness makes it well suited to coastal regions. Philadelphus Belle Etoile Plant bare-root plants in the dormant season (winter), when the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Alternatively, pot up into a container to grow on

So, like the other Philadelphus varieties, ‘Little White Love’ has a sun light requirement of 6 hours of sun per day. However, this shrub is more tolerant of partial sun and shade than other varieties. It will still flower best in full sun. Ideal Temperature This variety has large, white, cup-shaped flowers held on arching stems. These flowers are sometimes tinged pink as they age. It is quite a large shrub reaching a height of around 2.5 metres (8 feet). Philadelphus ‘Belle Etoile’ The key factor in pruning this shrub is timing. Pruning too early or too late will result in a failure to flower the following year. However, it is quite simple to prune this plant correctly and encourage an abundance of blossoms year after year. This variety is coveted for its exceptional fragrance. It is also prized for its white, single flowers with yellow stamens that grow in clusters of three or five. It is a more compact variety reaching 1.5 metres (5 feet) and it doesn’t mind being pruned, so can be useful for a smaller space. It will also do well in a large container. Philadelphus ‘Manteau d’Hermine’ Ideal humidity condition for this plant is 50%. If the environment is too dry, the leaves will start to curl and the flowers will fall off. If the humidity is too high, the leaves will become yellow and the plant will be more susceptible to fungal diseases. Fertilizer Requirement

Choose healthy stems without any buds or flowers, then, with a clean sharp knife, or secateurs, cut off a stem about 4 inches long. Remove the lower third of the leaves from the stem, dip the stem in rooting hormone powder and put into the prepared holes so that about one third of the stem is beneath soil level. Firm the soil around the stems and mist the pots with water. Philadelphus 'Manteau d'Hermine' – a compact variety with double, pompon-like flowers. H x S: 75cm x 1.5mThis perennial holds its foliage until the last moment, to ensure brightness is bought to gardens, even in autumn, while flowers are produced from May through to July. Take softwood cuttings in springtime. If the weather has been exceptionally dry, water your parent plant a few days before taking cuttings. Cuttings should be taken in the morning when the plant is full of sap.

Medium-height Philadelphus, for example P. ‘Belle Etoile’, which grows to around 1.5m (5ft), are ideal for planting behind other summer-flowering shrubs such as roses, or growing among tall perennial plants Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ – an unusual variety with pale green leaves and white flowers that have a yellow centre. H x S: 1.5m x 1.5m Of course, they make a great addition to a white garden, but they also look good with blue flowering shrubs such as Ceanothus. In fact, their white blossoms go well with most colour combinations from cool blues and violets to hot reds and yellows. Pruning AdviceConsider using this variety as a feature on a patio or balcony, by planting in a pot and swaying the delightful scent throughout your seating area.
