Cosmetically, the One Mini 2 and the (m8) look very similar. They both have the same gorgeous aluminium design and each runs Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC’s latest Sense 6 interface laid over the top. This means the One Mini 2 benefits from all the same HTC-exclusive apps as the (m8), including Blinkfeed and the forthcoming Zoe camera app. The only notable app missing on the One Mini 2 is HTC’s TV app, which turned the (m8) into a remote control and TV listing screen for your home cinema system. HTC hasn’t upgraded from the 720p HD display on the One Mini, which is mildly disappointing when you consider that the Moto G, now the benchmark for smartphones below the iPhone 5S, One M8, Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 boasts the same screen resolution. What has changed is the size, moving from a 4.3-inch display up to a larger 4.5-inch Super LCD 3 screen.

The rear cameras of mobile devices use mainly a LED flash. It may arrive in a single, dual- or multi-light setup and in different arrangements. The 4.5-inch screen has stretched a bit from the original's 4.3 inches, but it's retained the same screen resolution of 1,280x720 pixels. Technically that means the screen should be a little less sharp, but it's impossible to tell just from looking at it and it still delivers an impressive 342ppi -- still comfortably above the iPhone 5's 326ppi. There's 16GB of memory on board, which isn't bad, and you can add a further 128GB via microSD card (you can't use the card to store apps though).

The One Mini 2’s biggest compromise is its internal hardware. While its quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor is by no means slow, the Snapdragon 400 is also used in the considerably cheaper Motorola Moto G. Admittedly, the One Mini 2 was slightly faster in the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark, completing it in 1,185ms compared to the Moto G’s 1,410ms.That said, the One Mini 2 managed to run all the games and applications I threw at it, and apart from some tardy load times operation was smooth throughout. The Sony does have a much more powerful processor, but the 4-inch iPhone 5S also managed 2540, leaving the One Mini 2 lagging behind the competition. Battery The batteries of mobile devices differ in capacity and technology. They provide the electrical charge needed for the functioning of the devices. Capacity One of the main characteristics of the display is its type/technology, on which depends its performance. It's not a huge issue though, as with a steady hand the HTC One Mini 2 is capable of taking some nice shots.
