If there's a "through line" tethering the films Royal Warriors or Yes Madam is defined as the "first" film, and whether or not all four are indeed a traditional "series", the first two Ska Martes on Believer 2 (2023) Review Disappointing but not surprising that this is just more useless Netflix conte… Gaylord Picht on Hard Target | 4K UHD + Blu-ray (Kino Lorber) That's fantastic news! Donnie Yen does, of course, steal a little focus. Credit to him and Yuen Woo-ping though, they both clearly know this is Khan’s movie, and give her a ton of hero moments. There’s no need to cut around anything for Yen, and that makes his action flow even better. The fight with Salvitti, and finale fights with Wong and Michael Woods (also in the first two Tiger Cage films, which shot either side of this one) stand out, as does what is essentially a jousting match shot on dirt bikes. There is a chance to read into the Hong Kong/American alliance, wherein the U.S. police immediately turns to fighting rather than arrests. That idea dissipates though as other In the Line of Duty entries did the same, just with other nations like Japan. Each film gives Hong Kong a superior sensibility, and Khan is capable of making her reluctance logical. It’s part of her character, and transitioning between sequels is easier for it. JJ Bona on So Close | Blu-ray (88 Films) From what I gathered it was Region B (they seem to label their A/B releases p… Cynthia Khan breaks out as a compelling action star taking the reins from Michelle Yeoh in this fast-pace third entry. In the Line of Duty III looks great and is one of the better sequels around. Highly recommended. together, it may be nothing other than the fact that these are so-called "girls with guns" outings, where the focal character is kinda sorta a Hong Kongand where any number of alternate titles can either link or uncouple various entries in the "series" in a virtually random fashion (it's perhaps salient to The story, as ever, is largely a framework to hang the action on, but this time it sees Khan as a relatively inexperienced cop who impresses her superiors by taking down a robber and is sent to the serious crimes squad, commanded by her uncle (Paul Chun), who doesn’t want her to be a cop. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, a team of thieves led by by a couple (Stuart Ong as Nakamura and Michiko Nishiwaki who simply uses her real name for the character) takes down a jewellery show by a famous designer, killing many people in the process, including the partner of Policeman Hiroshi Fujioka (also using his real name in character). He comes to Hong Kong on their trail, and ends up teaming up with Khan to take the male and female thieves down. Andrew Hernandez on So Close | Blu-ray (88 Films) Agh! In the Line of Duty IV spends minimal time on storyline, retreading the familiar series routine of international police joining on a case, with Khan the righteous, rule-following cop. Yen, as her partner, chooses violence over courtroom justice. It’s ludicrous in a sense as Yen plays an “American” cop from “Seattle,” but that’s rapidly forgotten – In the Line of Duty IV is close to all action, or as close as possible without losing interest in the crime drama entirely. Frank Djeng and Michael Worth return from their commentary on In the Line of Duty III, and an additional older commentary comes from Hong Kong expert Stefan Hammond and actor Michael Wong. An interview with Donnie Yen precedes trailers. In the Line of Duty III is barely a franchise entry, but for me it betters its two predecessors. Yes Madam’s action is better overall, but the pacing and tonal balance is much stronger here, and Michiko Nishiwaki just pushes this entry to the top of the pile for me. Andrew Hernandez on Believer 2 (2023) Review Wow. I know you’ve hated other movies before, but this is flat out contempt!…As with Part 3, In the Line of Duty IV receives Eureka’s customary solid Blu-ray treatment. The picture is a huge upgrade on the old DVD, the sound is mono but does its job. It’s not the disc you’ll show off your system with, but it’s far and away the best presentation of this film. Hong Kong Cut featuring: Cantonese Original Theatrical Mix Mono & Cantonese (Home Video Mix) Mono Original Effects

Limited Edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork by Darren Wheeling [First Print Run of 2000 copies]somewhat chaotic situation leads to an almost farcical state of affairs where the ostensible first film in the series may in fact not be, How do you top the first two In The Line of Duty films? Easy... bigger explosions, wilder fights and even crazier stunts! This time, two Japanese thieves have fled to Hong Kong with a tough J-cop (Cynthia Khan, Blade of Fury) hot on their heels. It's up to Hong Kong's finest to stop the villains before too much damage is done! All four features are sourced from 2K restorations provided by Fortune Star, all with the MPEG-4 encode and certainly pulling the most out of the sometimes-problematic sources. That isn’t to say that the video quality across the board is bad, but these Fortune Star restorations tend to look a bit too flat and smooth to be considered true to the sources they used to scan. However, 88 Films make all the transfers look great nonetheless. Cynthia Khan stars in her first leading role as a young police officer who goes up against a dangerous duo of Japanese terrorists. After staging an outrageous jewellery heist in Tokyo, two thieves (Stuart Ong and Michiko Nishiwaki) travel to Hong Kong to trade their stolen goods.

I’m running out of ways to say that Eureka continue to deliver the goods in their presentation of their line of martial arts classics. The mono sound is solid if unspectacular, but the restoration of the image makes these movies look better than they likely ever have in the UK. It’s another impressive job. PLUS: A Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [First Print Run of 2000 copies]Their success in this film led to Donnie Yen, John Salvitti, Michael Woods and Yuen Woo-ping reuniting for “Tiger Cage 2”. Learning a great deal from the master action director Yuen Woo-ping and action star Donnie yen, Salvitti went onto have a successful career as a fight choreographer in his own right. He most recently re-teamed with Donnie for the films “Flashpoint”, “Special ID” and “Kung Fu Killer”, and worked with Jean-Claude Van Damme on “Pound of Flesh”. Both action films will be individual releases as part of the Eureka Classics range in their UK debuts on Blu-ray presented from brand new 2K restorations. Not available on home video in the UK since the VHS era.
