He is gay, something that James has trouble coming to terms with. He is kind, but will also conduct revenge schemes, including one in which he exposes politician Tan Abdullah as conducting illegal activities in Shadow Wave, the twelfth book of the series. Mr Pike was the head training instructor. He was tough but fair and James respected him a great deal. He wasn’t so sure about Mr Kazakov who’d been appointed less than a month earlier. He was a bully who James had got to know rather too well after sharing his tent for the past seven nights. Girl on Girl Is Hot: Two girls make-out at a Wild Teen Party in Brigands M.C., much to the delight of some of the teenage boys. Action Girl: Most of the female leads. All cherubs are trained to be superb martial artists and have gun training. Lauren and Rat have one near the beginning of Man vs. Beast in a room full of trainees, leading them to become an Official Couple by the next book.

James has an IQ of 153, and his prowess at maths is commonly noted, with him taking his A-levels in Maths and Further Maths a year early while also teaches Maths to younger members of CHERUB.
