Whisky has always been a huge part of the history of Blair Castle and we will be building an exhibition around the bottles we keep after the auction so that all who visit Blair Castle can see it and hear the history of this incredible whisky.” He said: “I’m fortunate to be well acquainted with old and rare liquid, as Whisky Auctioneer handles some of the world’s rarest whisky bottlings. Blair Athol’s visitors’ centre was constructed in 1987 and proudly entertains more than 80,000 tourists annually. A tour of this facility will show you how the dedicated distillers make malt whisky with locally obtained resources while you’re enjoying a taste from your dram. Getting to Blair Athol by RoadSituated on the fringe of the Pitlochry town in a lovely little valley hidden away from general view and just 8 minutes drive from us here at Atholl PalaceHotel. Guided tours include a taste of their finest whisky, an audio-visual presentation and a real insight into the traditional methods of whisky making. Dewars Distillery

Mr Troughton said: “Blair Castle is fortunate to have one of the best archives of any historic house in Scotland and it’s been wonderful to see the story of these fabulous bottles come to life in the archives. Ideal for those who want to drink the whisky and not drive! It has the world's only true Mash Tun bar, which is worth visiting. Blair Athol Distillery Pitlochry is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. It was established in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson. Its original name was 'Aldour' named after the burn or small stream it draws its water from. The original name was the 'Aldour'. Named after the Alt Dour burn (stream) from which the distillery draws its pure water. Dewar’s Distillery is located on the outskirts of the picturesque small market town of Aberfeldy, just over 20 minutes from Atholl PalaceHotel. Even today, the Aberfeldy Distillery, is considered ‘The home to Dewar’s World of Whisky’ this is because it is of great importance as it is the home of the respected single malt that is the heart of the Dewar’s family of blends. The distillery was founded in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson, [3] originally named 'Aldour', Interesting the spelling of Athol, is the original spelling and has one 'l'. Unlike the modern spelling of Atholl with two 'l's. By 1932 and throughout the WWII, Blair Athol was shut until the new owners ‘Arthur Bell & Sons’ rebuilt it in 1949 and added two more stills in 1970. This Highland distillery is situated in Pitlochry which is more like the gateways to the other highland areas of Scotland. The Bell’s Blend, one of the most consumed and loved whisky brands in all of South Africa, UK and Scandinavia are proudly owned by Blair Athol. Their single malt whiskey is flavoured and with a pleasing aroma. Some drinks are around 12 years old in maturation. Our recommendation is to try the Blair Athol 1993. Or, why not give a chance to the Blair Athol 2008. The Visitors’ Centre

Joe Wilson, head curator and spirits specialist at Whisky Auctioneer, claims the bottles contain the “world’s oldest scotch whisky” and said being able to offer them at auction is “truly a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence”.
