Description

Shai runs into a priest in "red armor" during her escape from the palace. While not explicitly stated, this is likely a Gyorn of Shu-Dereth and the empire of Fjorden. Whil Shai is an interesting protagonist, the true star of the show is found in the character of Arbiter Gaotona, an old, powerful man in the upper echelons of imperial society. While his colleagues are merely grabbing for retained power, the soul of Gaotona, the oldest of them, is much deeper than that.

I was also honored to be able to complete the final three volumes of The Wheel of Time, beginning with The Gathering Storm, using Robert Jordan’s notes. Me llamo Stephen Leeds, y estoy completamente cuerdo. Mis alucinaciones, sin embargo, están todas bastante locas." I can count with one finger the number of novellas I have felt compelled to own, and in hardcover nonetheless, and The Emperor’s Soul is that book. Our protagonist is Shai, a master Forger who is caught by the palace guards during a heist. Fortunately for her, instead of being executed outright, the Emperor was recently seriously wounded in an assassination attempt, leaving him alive but a vegetable. The Emperor's closest advisers, despite their repugnance at her skills, are desperate enough to ask Shai to Forge the Emperor a new soul. Shai takes the job because it's better than a short drop an a sudden stop, hoping to find a way to escape while working on the impossible task before her. Instead, the challenge consumes Shai, and we learn a lot about who she is, why she does what she does, and how her talents work as she works away at the problem. No simple thief or charlatan, Shai considers herself an artist, and we see just how accurate that appraisal can be as she approaches the Forging of the Emperor's soul.

The Emperor's Soul" is going on my all-time-favorite-books shelf and it will stay there forever and ever. Even though this is set in the Elantris world it stands on its own. You could read this without knowing anything about the Elantris story line and be okay and probably enjoy it just as much. Again Sanderson made up an entirely new magic system and showed it beautifully throughout the story. He made characters that were complex and interesting as well as sympathetic. Shai is another strong female character and I loved getting to know her in this. Now, she's got to do this in secret because the dude's been left a vegetable due to a failed assassination attempt. This novella is not only original, funny and exciting, but it also raises a few existential questions that I really enjoyed. It was fast paced, entertaining and simply awesome. Legión trata la historia de un hombre MUY inteligente capaz de... ¿Invocar? "alucinaciones" en forma de personas que le aportan distintos conocimientos para distintas situaciones de su vida, y que solo él puede ver. Vive en una gran mansión con un montón de habitaciones para esas "alucinaciones", y se dedica a resolver algunos casos de investigación con su ayuda. De repente aparece un caso inusual... Y poco más puedo decir sin fastidiaros la historia.

Buddy read with fellow Sandersonitis afflicted friends Athena& Alexa, and newly wrangled in buddy reader KatieThe story follows a young girl named Shai, a Forger who is imprisoned after an attempt to steal a famous sceptre on display in the emperor's palace. Shai has the ability to alter any object by creating a stamp that forges a new history for the object it is applied to. For example, a plain old wooden table can be transformed into a masterpiece by altering the history of the plain old wooden table to say it was created by a master carpenter. When an assassination attempt leaves the emperor in a vegetative state, Shai is offered her freedom in exchange for a stamp that will alter the history of the emperor so that he is able to recover from his vegetative state. But crafting such a stamp is highly complex and controversial process, and Shai knows she is a loose end that the emperor's council will be desperate to get rid of. Shai is a forger, meaning that she can rewrite an object's history, thus making it into a new object. Such magic is considered taboo within the Empire, that is until they find themselves enlisting Shai's help to try and forge the soul of their fallen Emperor, Ashravan.

I would actually compare Sanderson's impact on modern epic fantasy in terms of how he handles magic to Isaac Asimov's impact on science-fiction in how he handled robots. I'll be the first to say that the man has faults, and to roll my eyes at some of the more extreme Sanderson fanboys that apparently think he is some sort of god of fantasy literature, but he does deserve his due as a prolific, talented, and creative author. *The Emperor's Soul* makes this abundantly clear. This is the story of Shai, a forger who has been caught whilst attempting to steal and replace a priceless painting with her forgery. She believes that she's destined for execution and although she's skilled at escape, this time it seems impossible... until, she's given a chance, in return for helping to create the world's biggest forgery and cover up, she will be released and freed. Impressive storytelling, unique premise, vivid and immersive prose made The Emperor’s Soul a phenomenal novella that won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novella category justifiably. I totally recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a short and superb reading experience. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Cosmere fan or not, you don’t want to miss this reading this gem. The Hope of Elantris · The Emperor's Soul · Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell · Sixth of the Dusk)Shai is a forger, a person able to create exact copies of anything through magic and an understanding of its history and its pieces. Imprisoned for the theft of priceless artifacts, leaving fakes in their place, Shai awaits the day of her execution. When the Arbiters, those who rule in the Emperor's name, come to her with a proposition, she has little choice to accept. The Emperor's Soul is a fantasy novella written by American author Brandon Sanderson. It was first published in November 2012 by Tachyon Publications. It won the 2013 Hugo Award for best novella. [1] The novella is included in the 2016 Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection. Sanderson also raises important questions on the nature of the human soul. What exactly constitutes a soul? Can a soul be fully described and replicated? If yes, is the replica really the same person or simply a clone? A wonderful world, a unique adventure, and a beautifully intelligent leading lady, what more could you want? 5*s One of the best Sanderson short stories I've ever read too!
