About this deal

We have a 45 day unconditional satisfaction guarantee and a 5 year warranty on all products. If there were even the slightest issue with any product, or component of a product, we would replace it immediately and without question.” I realize the 806 is not the same speaker you are investigating, but I would expect it to measure similarly. To me, the Focals measure "better" than the SVS speakers, at least at Canada's National Research Centre. And boy, do these speakers love music. They have a warm, engaging, full sound signature that really lends itself to genres like R&B, EDM and hip-hop. While grungy heavy metal did give the low end a little bit of trouble, the overall impression was that of a speaker that just begs to be pushed, that begs you to turn the volume up. The audio quality was tremendously fun and exciting, even a little addictive. The very best speakers, we think, are the ones that let you have fun; that reward your investment with something you want to use over and over again. These speakers are neither subtle in looks nor in sound, and you know what? We think that’s a very good thing. Clearly, SVS believes it has designed a speaker that shatters previous attempts at redefining the price-to-performance barrier. We just had to find out for ourselves whether or not that was true. Here’s what we found. Out of the box

The wide speaker channels are intended to be placed between the main front speakers and the side surround speakers. The goal of the wide speaker is to minimize any gaps in panning and imaging between the front main speakers and the side surround speakers and provide an additional sense of envelopment. Below, you'll find a list of equipment we used in conjunction with the Prime Pinnacles while doing our listening tests for this review. It's all gear we are familiar with, which helped us evaluate the speakers’ audio quality. We mixed and matched depending on whether we were listening to music, or movie audio. Construction: A speaker's build is important so that you can be sure that you are receiving excellent value for your dollar. The best floor-standing speakers feature a high-quality build that is durable enough to last the long haul. It is also imperative to consider the style of the speakers to ensure that they complement your room design. The Ultra Tower’s claimed frequency response is 28Hz-32kHz,+/-3dB; its sensitivity is 88dB with 2.83V input at 1m. SVS recommends amplification of 20-300Wpc; Mason states that “a high-performance 20Wpc amplifier driving the speakers in a small room will result in a great listening experience for many customers. Some customers prefer to listen at higher SPLs in larger rooms, and they may find that more than 20W is required.”The Prime Pinnacles are three-way speakers ( here’s what that means). And although we should probably save this particular talk for the section below, where we discuss sound quality we think that the crossover that SVS are using here is something quite special. It’s called the SoundMatch, and although you can’t see it— it resides inside the speakers— it really does manage to create a cohesive soundstage. There is some loudspeaker technology, like the Uni-Q driver on KEF ‘s Q950 speakers, that is widely celebrated as pushing the audio world forward. We may be getting ahead of ourselves here, but we think that the SoundMatch crossover should be in the same conversation. What we did like about the SVS Ultra Towers, and what we thought the speakers also did really well, with the sense of space and imaging they delivered. This is due to, we are convinced, the toe-out design to angle the woofers, but even if that hadn’t been the case, we’ve no doubt that they’d do a very good job convincing us of the place of the individual elements of the mix. And if you can forgive the slight misstep with the highs, which will probably end up getting fixed the next time SVS release a new iteration of these, you have to applaud their overall sound quality. In terms of floorstanding speakers, they deliver audio that in our opinion is beaten by perhaps only one or two other models in the same price range. It’s a very good look. By the way, SVS has an excellent speaker positioning guide - far more intuitive than anything we could put together here. You should make full use of that if you buy. IIRC, the Chora-series from Focal is their budget-series of loudspeakers. The Prime Pinnacles, at least, are a step up from the regular Prime-series. I agree with Zorba about using the Ultra Centre with the Pinnacles, as it will give you much better sound from that position. Separate sealed midrange enclosures minimize top-to-bottom wall dimensions and shift standing waves beyond the driver pass band, minimizing negative driver interaction and associated frequency response degradation

Volume: A speaker's decibels tell you how loud your speaker can get. The higher the decibels, the louder your speaker's volume output.

Unpacking

Speakers that put out solid bass tempt one to pull out pipe-organ recordings. A recent organ recital, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh, reacquainted me with the sound of a magnificent instrument in a huge space. And I’ve recently received as gifts a couple of CDs by a fabulous organist, Joan Lippincott. On her recording of transcriptions of concertos by J.S. Bach (CD, Gothic G-49275), she plays the Paul Fritts organ at Princeton Theological Seminary. The Concerto in G Major, BWV 592, gave me some of what I want from a pipe organ (thundering bass), but mostly a well-balanced performance on a terrific instrument. Where the recording plumbs the depths, the Ultra Towers came through (they’re claimed to have legitimate output down to 28Hz, after all). But I didn’t expect the delicacy of the organ’s high reeds -- a pleasure! SVS stands behind the Ultra Tower with a five-year warranty against defects in parts and workmanship, as well as a 45-day in-home trial period. manufacturers combined, none of them can sonically hold a candle to the NAD." I understand this as I had an NAD amp in college 28 years ago. LOL Very intrigued how they deliver the goods with 757 with the same sonic pedigree.I remember.

After the speakers and main listening position are set as close to a perfect equilateral triangle as possible, the speakers must be angled slightly toward the listening position (also called toeing in). This can be done by ear and usually a ¼ to ½ inch toe-in is sufficient. When done correctly, you will be able to clearly perceive a center focused voice when the sweet spot is hit. You get a lot of speaker for your money, but there are more rounded, better executed speakers out there at this price.

So I think you make a good point, there is no need to replace the BP10's. The only reason really is simply to try something new. forget about the looks of the speakers i wanna know who has the best high end sound quality overall!! way crossover with premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors and heavy-trace printed circuit boards. The Ultra Tower speakers area perfectly tuned acoustic ecosystem. From the drivers to the crossover and cabinet, each component is painstakingly engineered and critically tested to perform in harmony and convey breathtaking sound quality. Ultra Driver & Tweeter Design We noticed this while playing music, but we noticed it even more when listening to movies. Sure, we got as much excitement as we could handle when it came to dinosaur roars from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and the thunder of turbine engines in The Wandering Earth. But the one thing we did find was that dialogue didn’t sound quite as crisp as we would have liked. In addition, elements like bullets whizzing by didn’t sound all that threatening, without the upper ranges being able to provide the energy.
