But how does all this compare to a harness system, which is often the standard in event photography? While writing this review, I used the Capture with 4 different cameras: a Nikon D750 w/ 50mm 1.8 (1 kg / 2.19 lb), Nikkormat FTN w/ 50mm 1.4 (1.1 kg / 2.43 lb), Bronica RF645 w/ 65mm f/4 (1.1 kg / 2.44 lb) and Hasselblad 501C w/ 80mm f/2.8 (1.47 kg / 3.25 lb). All of these felt confidently secure. I don’t think Peak Design has ever advocated for strapping your heaviest lens to your chest and hiking for miles and miles on end with it. If you did need to carry a heavy lens or camera for a considerable period of time, you can easily do your best cowboy impression and clip the Capture Clip to your belt instead, which would certainly be easier on your body than my dumb decision.

PeakDesign makes interesting things and they care about customers (thanks, Adam H. for your patience and understanding). My issues with them: You paid good money for that camera, so get it out of your bag and use the dang thing. With Capture, you can safely and comfortably carry your camera anytime, anywhere, and always have instant access. Pro Pad: The Pro Pad wraps around a belt and acts as an expanded padded surface for the Capture Clip to attach to, increasing comfort and stability when attaching large or heavy gear. Neither of my travel tripods use an ARCA plate, so I have to change out. That means I have to carry around the hex wrench. A bit of a bummer for sure. The Peak Design Everyday Sling v2 is an excellent example, providing a secure, chic and comfortable means of carrying camera gear. It’s perfect for city-breaks and day trips, with waterproof lining and thief-deterring zippers.I also use the Capture Clips, they are what usually carry the weight, not the straps. The straps I use mainly as a safety net, or momentarily to give me a third hand whilst changing lenses or for when I need both of my hands for something else for a moment or two. All in all, I LOVE our Peak Design Capture Clip and can confidently say that it’s dramatically helped us up our photography game—simply by encouraging us to take more photos. Between its durability, incredible versatility, thoughtful design and reasonable price point, this little gadget is a must for every photographer on the go.

The Capture Clip has two metal layers that are connected by two semi-permanent thumb drive bolts. When you unscrew the bolts, the outer layer of the clip swings upward.I’m telling this story because it shows one minor niggle with the Capture Clip. If your tripod isn’t compatible, like my smaller tripods, then you’ll need to remove the plate from your camera using the allen key. This can be a minor nuisance and leaves the plate at risk of being lost on a mountain if you’re a numpty like me. Still, there are some tripods that do work with the plate in place, as well as some alternative plates and adapters for various uses. Plus I always feel like a National Geographic photographer or something when I press the release button down and whip the camera out of its holster. Versatility

I use a Sony A6000 mirrorless camera which is smaller than most full-frame DSLR cameras, but Peak Design claim the clip will work well with “the largest of professional cameras.” In fact they say it can withstand well over 90kg (200lbs). With my heaviest lens, my camera weighs 830g. I actually find it more stable when it’s heavier as it bounces around less. There’s also the aforementioned Pro Pad, which gives way more stability. It’s meant for pro photographers (hence its name) but I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. Anyway, I’m shooting on a Sony A7III, so I’m not really carrying that much weight. Interestingly, you can see the differences between P eak Design Capture v2 vs v3 gave us some things while taking others away.P.O.V. Kit: A standard plate and plate with a male tripod thread connected by a dual articulating (pan-and-tilt) arm. For mounting small action cameras, like a GoPro. Peak Design continues to bring a photographers-first approach to their design with a very strong sense for what works and what doesn’t. In this writer's opinion, the new Capture Clip falls squarely in the "works" column. What we like: The Capture Clip V3 marks a 30% reduction in size and weight over the previous model. It is thinner, narrowerandthe accompanying cameraplate ( sold separately) that has been reduced in size too. Creating a superior product comes from smart design, as well as employing high quality materials and manufacturing methods. This applies to the Capture Clip given the use of aluminum alloy and stainless steel, and the lifetime guarantee. While this review does not extend to an audit of manufacturing practices, Peak Design does have a good reputation for consistently delivering high quality products. My experience with the Capture Clip is in line with this reputation.
