A common infection of the mouth is thrush. Thrush causes white patches in your mouth. The skin inside your mouth can be very red and sore.

Mouth ulcers are painful sores that can occur anywhere inside the mouth. This leaflet is about the most common type of mouth ulcers, which are aphthous mouth ulcers. At least 1 in 5 people can develop aphthous mouth ulcers at some stage in their lives. Women are affected more often than men. Oral thrush is a fungal infection that affects the mouth and throat. It is caused by a yeast called Candida and although it is normally harmless it can cause the mouth to become very uncomfortable and sore. You can help prevent some mouth problems by keeping your mouth clean and moist. For example, gently cleaning your teeth or dentures in the morning, evening, and after each meal. You can use lip balm to keep your lips moist.

Indications

Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.

It is an ideal medicine for pain associated with canker sores, cold sores, and dentures. It also helps to treat inflammation caused due to mouth ulcers along with the infection. The gel is ideal to use for people above 18 years. 13. Rite Gel for Mouth Ulcer A mouth ulcer is a sore that appears anywhere inside your mouth. These sores are usually red, yellow or white, and you might have one or several. Some people confuse canker sores with cold sores (fever blisters), but they’re very different. A canker sore appears inside your mouth. A cold sore forms outside your mouth, usually on your lips. Canker sores aren’t contagious, but cold sores are. How do you know if your mouth ulcer is bad? For the treatment in children divide the dose into smaller portions and only apply to the front of their mouth.

Orajel numbs the skin or surfaces inside the mouth and used for the temporary relief of pain from sore throat, canker sores, cold sores, fever blisters, minor irritation or injury of the mouth and gums. Mouth ulcers are usually easy to spot. They appear as sores on your gums, tongue, inner cheeks, inner lips or roof of your mouth.

If you have false teeth (dentures) and are treating oral thrush you should also brush the gel onto your dentures after you take them out at night. This is to kill any fungus that may be on the dentures. An overdose of benzocaine can cause fatal side effects if too much of the medicine is absorbed through your skin and into your blood. This can happen if you apply more than the recommended dose. You should inform your doctor if you have any other symptoms in addition to the mouth ulcers. Other important symptoms would include skin or genital ulcers or joint pains and inflammation. Sometimes a blood test or other investigations are advised if other causes of mouth ulcers are suspected. Aphthous mouth ulcers managementOffer them cool, soft foods to eat. Rough foods like toast or cereal flakes might hurt their mouth. You can take up to four tablets a day, ideally leaving three to four hours between each dose. You can take them for up to five days at a time. Whilst they’re very effective, the fact that they contain a mild steroid means not everyone will be happy to take. a long-term condition – such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), coeliac disease or Behçet's disease
