Some Sonicare and Colgate models do actually achieve up to 3 weeks, but Oral-B are now much much closer in their capabilities. Now, this leads me to one of the biggest problems with the Oral-B Smart 4000 and that is the box contents. I think this is a big oversight and even if it meant a few extra pounds being added to the price, I think it would have been a worthwhile addition.

Sadly with this Oral-B smart toothbrush, you will need to hold the smartphone or come up with your own mounting solution in the bathroom. Each of the 3 cleaning modes work slightly differently, with differing levels of oscillations, rotations and pulsations to achieve different cleaning effects on the teeth. A point to note here is the different versions of the Oral-B Smart 4 that I mentioned earlier. Whilst both models comes with the same cleaning modes, the Smart 4 4000S comes with the 2 x Sensitive brush heads, most fitting to the Sensitive cleaning mode offered on the brush. As good as the app is, I feel this may also be one of the negatives as some will not see the point of using it or find it more hassle than it’s worth. You don’t have to if you don’t want to.The Smart 4 uses a handle design that has been tried, tested and perfected over many years and I really can’t find any obvious faults with it. It is well built and solid in hand. The grip on the rear of the Pro 3 brush handle comes in the form of lots of dimples compared to the ridges on the Smart 4.

The very nature of being an electronic item with moving parts does indeed make the brush susceptible to failure. However, the reliability of Oral-B products tend to be very good. The Smart 4 4000 has a larger rubber grip on the front of the handle that the Pro 3 – 3000 does not have. Technically the Pro 3 is the best value, but the Smart 4 really isn’t much more expensive if you think you will benefit from the Bluetooth. Right at the top of the brush handle is a metal prong, this is what the brush head connects to and feeds the power from the brush motor. I understand why though. If it did, there is no way of showing what mode it is on, unless you use the app.Aside from the aforementioned 3 brush heads, the Smart 4 comes with a brush head storage compartment included in the box. Because it logs your brushing sessions, it holds you accountable a bit more as you can see when you have, or perhaps have not brushed. The Oral-B Pro 2 2000 has 2 cleaning modes, the Pro 3000 has 3 cleaning modes, the Smart 5 5000 has 5 cleaning modes, so as you would imagine the Smart 4 has 3 cleaning modes….Yes, I know, I can't quite figure that out either.
