About this deal

The internal squidgy bit in the middle of the Gaia feet means that when installed, the loudspeaker has a small amount of travel like it’s sitting on a well-damped suspension system. It doesn’t bounce like the suspension of a Linn turntable, and it doesn’t even have the freedom of movement of something like a Townshend seismic speaker platform, but if you are used to rigid speakers spiked into the floor, that slight movement might come over as disconcerting. Thus, I discussed with Morrison the possibility of reviewing some of the footers by trying them out on two sets of speakers that were currently at my home. One set were on stands; the Alta Audio FRM-2 Celesta, while the other set were a new Alta Audio floor standing model; the Alec. Optimal results are achieved by installing the GAIA isolators with the logo facing the listening position, or rotated 180 degrees, to align the isolators with the speaker’s motive forces. Lift and place the speakers into position as the GAIA lower isolators will adhere to the supporting surface. Being honest if your subs are on carpet I'd suggest using spikes or even granite plinths with SVS feetbut if you have no issues at present then leave things as they are.

Katie Melua’s “Love is a Silent Thief” from Ketevan is another torture test. The GAIA once again reduced the extreme vibrations from the song’s rich bass lines from reverberating into the room’s substructure. There were four things specifically that piqued my curiosity about IsoAcoustic and led to the current review: This makes the speakers disappear more or in some songs completely, very nice as before I was always aware of my speakers. Sean gave me a deep dive into their patented isolation technology to gain a better understanding how IsoAcoustics GAIA isolators work.Next thing to notice, spatial resolution and transient response. Especially in regard to higher pitch percussion any trailing edge smear is reduced, things start and stop are crisp and 3D soundstage extends to make things very nicely holographic. Depending on production value you can hear different instruments in fixed places in the air. The difference were immediately audible, the sound stage was more focused, and the bass was tighter, and the micro dynamics were cleaner with everything have more snap. Firstly , these feet are VERY well engineered and look truly impressive under my speakers. Very easy to install and as mentioned , add extra stability right off the bat. The suction cups on the bottom of the Gaia's are great.

I did ask for a deeper dive on the materials and composition and Sean was coy about divulging those secrets. The isolator is best described as a “resilient elastometer.” Fair enough. While we may romanticize the quest, the actual journey to peak performance is far less fanciful but no less noble. Perhaps the journey would be less complicated if we reframed it as: “How can I optimize my system’s performance in my listening room?” Now there is the nuance! We’ve talked enough about the use cases and now it’s time to do a deeper dive into the tech. IsoAcoustics isolation products perform two primary functions:Every so often, when my stereo system sound quality has been inspiring delight for an unusual lengthy period of time, I decide to tinker just to see what else is possible. Can I get the sound quality even better (even if just a tiny bit) by some small adjustment? Examples include experimenting with different analog or digital interconnect cables, power cables, or isolation footers to be placed under various components. After I had the IsoAcoustics GAIA installed, I noticed that they had some play if I pushed on them. This play was something that threw me for a loop and I wasn’t expecting it. I had the impression that the GAIA were somehow going to be inert objects like spikes. Well, fear not, this is part of their isolation design. Moreover, Sean told me that tipping a speaker with the GAIA installed to position it or move it around won’t damage the GAIA isolators.

The price point of the GAIA lineup is not for the faint of heart or wallet. In fact, implementing a stereo set of GAIA isolators into your setup may end up costing you somewhere in the neighborhood of 5%-20% of your speaker's MSRP. The one thing that my months-long experience with IsoAcoustics GAIA isolators taught me is that decoupling the speakers from the flooring substrate and dampening the resulting vibrations plays a role in improving the perceived soundstage, imaging detail, and improves the overall experience of the music. Moreover, isolation most certainly needs to be part of our conversation of optimizing speaker-room performance and as far as I'm concerned now belongs as an essential part of our optimization toolkit. They sound superb in terms of transient response, transparency, live-like soundstaging & precise imaging. Well balanced highs & lows. Large Appliances - (Washing Machines, Dishwashers, Fridge Freezers etc). Free Local Delivery Service (Cumbria, SW Scotland and NE England*) 2-3 working days. This can be considered hifi dogma, the Isoacoustics feet and allowing you to improve this after the fact. I was looking to isolate my speakers from the hardwood floor to mitigate some of the physical vibrations that went into the room from my speakers without altering the sound—I did not want a solution that dampened or muddied the impact of lower frequencies.

Unless spikes still speak to you so loudly that you cannot countenance any other form of support system on religious grounds, the IsoAcoustics Gaia makes a whole lot of sense. If you want to hear what your loudspeakers really sound like, put them on a set of these support feet. It’s like your loudspeakers just got a significant upgrade! Now the next question: Did those controlled environment measurements translate into audible, real-world perceptions? Unboxing and Setup The GAIA did not alter a speaker's frequency response. Here is a comparison of the measurements of the speaker with spikes and with the GAIA. My 2-way KEF bookshelf loudspeakers are mounted on sand/lead shot-filled tripod on spikes on wall-to-wall carpeted concrete floor of my house basement.
