Through omnioculars, Harry Potter watches the match from the stadium’s top box with Hermione Granger, the Weasleys (except for Mrs. Weasley), Winky, the Malfoys, and various important guests. The veela, Bulgaria’s mascots, captivate Harry and the other wizards. But the subsequent display from Ireland’s leprechauns does not fail to impress either. In the grand scheme of the things, Harry probably has never had a more timely catch of the Snitch than he did here. With Ron’s confidence completely shot, Slytherin would have undoubtedly scored more goals and the deficit could have grown insurmountable. There was a very real chance that if the match had gone longer, Gryffindor could have fallen behind by more than 150 points. Ron was simply that bad. In fact, I think Ron’s poor play had an effect on the entire team. Gryffindor’s Chaser trio were not nearly as crisp as they were in their previous match against Slytherin. It’s clear that Wood was a key safety valve for Gryffindor. They never had to worry about letting too many goals in with Wood guarding the hoops. The drop-off at Keeper for Gryffindor allows Slytherin to finally be on equal footing talent-wise with their rivals. Slytherin clearly played better overall in this match and if Harry hadn’t caught the Snitch when he did, it would have gotten ugly fast. A witch named Modesty Rabnott, who was also watching the game, took pity on the Snidget and rescued it with a Summoning Charm before rushing away with it hidden inside her robes. She was caught by a furious Bragge and fined ten Galleons for disrupting the game, but not before she had released the Snidget. This saved the life of this bird, but the connection with Quidditch had been made, and soon a Snidget was being released at every game. From then, each team had an extra player — originally called the Hunter, later the Seeker — whose sole job was to catch and kill the Snidget, for which one-hundred and fifty points were awarded in memory of the one-hundred and fifty Galleons offered by Bragge in the original game. [1]

A replacement for the Golden Snidget was sought, and the skilled metal-charmer Bowman Wright invented the Golden Snitch to replace it. The Snitch weighed exactly the same as a Snidget, and its rotational wings imitated the bird's, allowing it to change direction and speed like its living counterpart. [1] Furthermore, according to the rules of the game, the Golden Snitch can only be caught by the seeker of either team and it marks the final moment of a game as catching the Snitch declares the end of the game. Harry Potter is strongly associated with the Golden Snitch for several reasons. Most importantly, he proved his abilities as a skilled Quidditch seeker when he caught the Snitch with his mouth in his first-ever game. Furthermore, he was given the same Snitch which contained a Deathly Hallow inside it by Dumbledore. Everyone thinks they know how the Golden Snitch should look. The designers knew they had to get it right. The Ancient Egyptians believed gold to be divine and indestructible. In modern folklore, it is the prized possession of every dragon. In its purest form, gold means truth and honesty, but also greed, control, shallow needs and extravagance. In Harry Potter, the theme of gold runs deep, right down to the wizarding currency, and the glimmer of a Golden Snitch. With historical records of the time being rather limited, there was no further mention of Quidditch until a hundred years later, around 1150. A letter sent from a wizard called Goodwin Kneen to his Norwegian cousin Olaf survived from this time and gave a clear indication of how far the game had come. It had gained a name (although it was spelt ' Kwidditch' at this time) and a number of organised teams, as well as titles for players and equipment. From the letter it can be seen that early Chasers were known as ' Catchers', and the Bludger began its life as the ' Blooder'. [1] Side note: Let’s take a moment to appreciate that this is Hufflepuff’s third consecutive win against Gryffindor. As a House, Huffelpuff is often the butt of many jokes, but there is no denying that they certainly had Gryffindor’s number in the nineties. Not only is Hufflepuff the only team to beat Gryffindor when Harry plays, but they also have a winning record against Gryffindor to boot, with their only loss coming in Harry’s first year. Due to the match cancellations in ’92-’93 and ’94-‘95, Hufflepuff casually goes at least six years without losing to Gryffindor. In fact, Hufflepuff’s unbeaten streak may have stretched even longer since it is unlikely that Quidditch was played at Hogwarts under the Death Eater regime in ‘97-’98. If Hufflepuff managed to beat Gryffindor when Quidditch presumably resumed in ’98-’99, then a whole generation of Gryffindors would have gone through their entire Hogwarts tenure without seeing their squad beat the supposedly second-rate House in Hufflepuff. Tough stuff for Gryffindor. Vs. Ravenclaw Match Summary

In the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Islands of Adventure theme park, Quidditch is featured near the end where riders are flown through the Quidditch pitch. A storefront near Ollivanders Wand Shop is themed as a Quidditch supply with a Golden Snitch on the sign and a case containing animated Quaffle and Bludgers surrounded by Beaters’ bats. Behind The Scenes: Designing The Golden Snitch The Golden Snitch is a brightly golden colored sphere attached to two silver wings that help it attain flight during a Quidditch match. The Golden Snitch is one of the three balls used during a Quidditch match and carries the highest points – a total of 150. It’s only after this announcement that Harry finally sees the Snitch. In my opinion, a truly great Seeker shouldn’t need the announcer to tell them where the Snitch is. They should be able to find it themselves. Had Harry spotted the Snitch before all the players were made aware, he could’ve had a clear lead on Higgs. Instead they’re side by side for the initial chase.Read on to learn how gold constantly pops up in the Harry Potter series, and what it could all mean… Gringotts bank Players must not stray over the boundary lines of the pitch, although they may fly as high as desired. The Quaffle must be surrendered to the opposition if any player leaves the boundary (it is unknown what the penalty is if a player on defence leaves the pitch). [1] The game was played with three types of balls: the Golden Snitch, Quaffle and Bludger. [2] Rules [ ]
