So you THINK loudspeaker placement would improve digital reproduction quality!! Really ?? I wish it could be that simple !

The Speaker Box 5 S2 is an unreasonably good speaker. There’s a fundamental ‘rightness’ to the way it makes music So, a few weeks later, I was suitably delighted when Pro-Ject's follow-up to the Debut Carbon DC—the Debut Carbon EVO—arrived at my door. One extremely CRITICAL test of any preamp is the "BYPASS test" whereby the sound coming out of it is compared with the same sound fed directly from the signal source into the power amp."Pro-Ject is one of the go-to names when people talk about great-sounding yet affordable turntables, and the Debut Carbon (the predecessor to this new model), was perhaps the company's crown jewel. It's now been dethroned. This hopefully serves two purposes. Plenty of people have this very turntable so you can get a direct handle on what happens with these upgrades. Even if you don’t have a Carbon Evo (or indeed a member of the Debut range), this should be useful to some extent. Most turntables will allow for a degree of alteration and some can be altered even more significantly than this. Obviously, the effect of different changes varies from brand to brand (for example, Rega is wildly unkeen on you fitting a platter weight or clamp to their turntables) but it should still give you some idea of the general effect of changing certain bits. Heavy steel and TPE damped Pro-Ject added a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) ring on the inside of the platter. The result is an even quieter and noiseless operation with less wow and flutter. I'm not sure how many records I have. People who know that kind of thing remind me of those those high school dopes who needed to walk around at parties regaling fellow party goers with the exact number of beers they had consumed. It doesn't matter. Shut up and party. Anyway, I would guesstimate I have 3,500? But, that has nothing to do with anything other than answering your question. As for what I like, all of it. Wait, no, I don't really care for "countrypolitan" or anything that's so compressed it actually intrudes on the music...which, these days, seems to be too many things. Bottom line, though, if someone took the time to record it, I will try to listen to it.

I was half tempted to have a change but the sound from the Evo was just right for my ears and set-up it seemed silly to change. The EVO weighs in at 13.2 pounds and measures 16.3 inches wide by 4.5 inches high and 12.6 inches deep. Pro-Ject specifies the wow and flutter at +/- 0.19 percent and speed drift +/- 0.6 percent, both at 33 rpm. The signal-to-noise ratio is specified as 68 dB. From there, the Carbon Evo builds on the qualities of its more affordable brethren. The biggest gains are to be had in the soundstage and bass. Put succinctly, the Carbon Evo finds more space in the record and then proceeds to fill it more effectively. Without the low end ever sounding overcooked or dominating the performance, the Pro-Ject hits harder and goes deeper. Analogue bass is a function of engineering; it can’t be easily created any other way. The Carbon Evo is able to give much more of a hint as to what the high end of analogue is capable of at a fairly terrestrial price point. The new Debut Carbon EVO features the proven 8,6 one piece Carbon tonearm design. The super stiff, but lightweight tonearm delivers an insane sound quality with a convincing sound stage. I do admit to being a slight turntable hoarder. They fascinate me and I have never been able to get myself to part with one, so, they accumulate. While it's still incredibly easy to use (especially for anyone used to setting up more complicated players), you are giving up conveniences like auto start/stop, an anti-skate dial and a built-in phono preamp but for audiophiles, none of these downsides matter as the turntable’s sonic performance vastly outweighs its minor trade offs.
