About this deal

Regarding Internet speeds, in my anecdotal real-world experience, the UDM-SE generally delivered the sustained broadband speed of around 6.5Gbp out of a 10Gbps Fiber-optic line -- as shown in the screenshot above.

You can do virtually anything you'd want to do with the UDM-SE's ports or connected clients, and in comprehensive ways. And the console has everything you can think of regarding network, Wi-Fi, and mesh configurations. If you want to use them with a non-Ubiquiti device, such as a managed Multi-Gig switch, set the third-party device's SFP+ port in DAC or Auto (and not SFP+) mode. Else, no SFP+ copper cable will work. Also, since the router has just one 10Gbps LAN port, I put it in a double-NAT to copy data from my 10Gbps-capable server via its other 10Gbps WAN port. This setup is also not ideal for performance. The one situation that my Pro set up cannot do that SE can is dual WAN with both having beyond a full gigabit speed. I don’t even have dual WAN setup but even if I did, I doubt myself paying premium price for both lines as a home network user in any foreseeable future. Summary The combination of the Unifi Dream Machine SE and wireless access points provides an incredibly powerful home networking solution that is both secure and reliable. With this setup, you can easily create a robust Wi-Fi network that covers every corner of your home or office without having to worry about dead spots or slow speeds due to distance from the router. Plus, with advanced features like QoS prioritization and VLAN segmentation, you can ensure that all of your devices get the bandwidth they need when they need it most – making this setup perfect for streaming media content like movies or playing online games without lag or buffering issues.I actually believe this drive is intended to allow the UDM SE to be used in larger deployments that might have problems due to the internal eMMC and it's smaller capacity. Larger deployments would have the need to store more information such as Network events, logs around user access, voice mail or recorded messages etc. However, it's also the least secure. It's better than no VPN at all, and it does its purpose of making a remote device part of a local network. UID (UniFi Identity): A premium feature for enterprises that allows single sign-on across multiple hardware platforms and applications. If you have been with Unifi for a long time, you probably have the USG + Unifi Managed Switch + Cloud Key combo like I do in my smart home network. The UDM-Pro or UDM-SE essentially replace all 3 of those devices. So sure if you need any of the additional features of these newer devices, go ahead. But if you are happy with your current setup, there’s no need to upgrade. Conclusion

If you want to use transceivers to convert them into 10GBASE-T ports, the TP-Link TL-SM5310-Tworked best out of many I've tried. All UniFi Gateways, Cloud Gateways, and UniFi OS Consoles, as of November 2023. See my UniFi Router Comparison for more details. For clarity I've separated them into categories based on their role. The device boasts a powerful quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 processor running at 1.7 GHz, 4 GB DDR4 system memory, 16 GB eMMC on-board storage, and an integrated 128 GB SSD. Connectivity options include eight LAN GbE RJ45 ports, a 2.5 GbE WAN RJ45 port, and 10G SFP+ interfaces for LAN and WAN. It supports PoE with a total of six PoE and two PoE+ interfaces and offers an IDS/IPS throughput of 3.5 Gbps. The device's operating temperature ranges from -10 to 40°C, and it comes with a 1.3" touchscreen LCM display and ESD/EMP protection. As a network controller, the UDM-SE has everything the UDR has and much more. You can run multiple applications with the UDM-SE, of which the Network app is the default.

AC Mesh Professional

Wireguard is the latest VPN protocol. Debuted in 2016, initially only for Linux, but since 2020 has been available cross-platform (Windows, macOS, BSD, iOS, Android). When setting up a wireless access point with the Unifi Dream Machine SE, there are several things to consider such as placement and configuration settings. For optimal performance, it’s best to place the access point in an area where there is good line of sight between it and other devices on the network such as computers or phones. Also, perhaps this could be a great idea for another post from you where you can recommend the Unifi UPS and also which splitters and link it to your excellent PoE article which I just read as well. Also, would you recommend any specific splitters on the market? I’m always worried about buying something cheap that will fry my equipment at worst, or just degrade its life at best due to poor and ‘noisy’ power delivery.

You can get Wi-Fi 7 router today, but the standard is not yet ready, and nobody knows how exactly it will be when it's eventually certified. Network: All things related to the function of a network, including network settings/features, Wi-Fi, mesh, and the support for extender/access points, etc. Another reason to get the UDM-Pro is if you would rather use a separate PoE switch with more 802.3af ports or a higher wattage. Finally, the UDM-SE has eight PoE Gigabit LAN ports. You can use them to host any wired devices, including PoE cameras, IP phones, access points, and more. So if you’re looking for an easy way to create a comprehensive home networking solution that is both secure and reliable – look no further than the Unifi Dream Machine SE combined with Unifi wireless access points. We may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting if you tell us that you wish this to happen. If you don’t need PoE-enabled Ethernet ports at all, the UDM-Pro will probably be fine. But do note that its WAN Ethernet port is limited to 1 Gigabit Ethernet. The UDM is the first UniFi product that works well as a home router, thanks to its friendly design. In a way, it's a bridge between the two product lines. The UDR further solidifies that approach, making the UDM-Pro or UDM-SE applicable to demanding homes.
