About this deal

of the participants were known to the Speech and Language Therapy Service at the start of the project. The other children were chosen for a number of reasons, including low levels of confidence with talking, learning English as an additional language, poor language skills, poor speech skills, poor attention, listening and turn-taking skills. To what extent does the evidence base support the intervention’s efficacy? Ideally, there should be an evidence base establishing efficacy using rigorous methods, such as randomized, controlled trials (RCTs). Efficacy studies may also have demonstrated which intervention components, alone or in combination, are associated with improvement. An intervention with mixed findings or less robust evidence may not be sufficiently efficacious for a PCT. Furthermore, overwhelming evidence for efficacy doesn’t necessarily translate to overwhelming evidence for effectiveness. While an intervention may work in a controlled setting, it is vital to test the intervention in a real-world context (such as a PCT). Risk Formal assessment of understanding of spoken language was undertaken using the Test for Reception of Grammar (TROG 2-E). moving loads without wheels, which might involve actions such as dragging/sliding, churning (pivoting and rolling) and rolling. Another aim was to identify children who may need more specialist speech and language therapy input and to make timely and appropriate referrals in this case.

Since its first publication in 1967, the Renfrew Action Picture Test has been a reach-for assessment used by a range of professionals dedicated to the speech and language development of children between 3.0-8.5 years of age. Widely used by Speech and Language Therapists / Pathologists, SENCOs, and teachers, among other professionals, the test covers words used to convey information (i.e. nouns, verbs, prepositions); present, past and future tenses; irregular forms of plural and past tenses; simple and complex sentence construction; and passive voice. The test provides an Information and Grammar score that can be benchmarked against a UK school population. Based on these considerations, in 2003 a method able to identify the risk of needing extended inpatient rehabilitation after arthroplasty was first published. So, nearly half of all Spirals children made more progress than would normally be expected over an 8 month period. No feeding difficulties are reported. At rest the lips are closed, the tongue does not appear over large and she does not mouth breathe.

Is it known how safe the intervention is? PCTs often involve providers implementing interventions as a new standard of care with all patients. An intervention should therefore be of minimal risk, with careful consideration given to potential adverse events and unintended consequences. This is particularly true when an intervention targets people who are vulnerable, such as those with ADRD or residing in nursing homes and other residential care settings. Feasibility Although contrarily to many of the other scores, the RAPT has been validated in multiple countries and continents with relatively similar results between different institutions

About the Series

Widely used by Speech and Lang Although they made no statistically significant progress, all were rated as having made progress in the classroom, either in thinking, language, social, listening or confidence, by their Teacher. The case study of Tom (appendix 2) is a good example of this. Following the success of last year’s parent workshops, it seemed extremely important to extend the project again this year to involve parents and carers. Therefore, a final aim was to involve parents in their child’s communication development. Assess children’s expressive vocabulary skills through presenting a series of pictures that children have to name. However, since one of the best advantages of RAPT is its easy use and linear classification, the introduction of other tools or factors could create many variables resulting in a more complicated instrument that we do not know how to integrate with RAPT. For example, some studies

of children made more than 8 months’ progress in 8 months for expressive language (see blue portion of pie chart).U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, ASPE, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation.
