A 29-foot gap in the concrete bridge meant that the Marines would have to abandon all of their vehicles, and carrying out their wounded and dead under fire would be a nearly impossible task. U.S. Marines came ashore at Inchon prepared to plant their flag in Seoul. The port of Inchon was largely undefended, and was captured in a matter of days.
