As mentioned above, the HDJ-X10 are some of the more durable headphones available today – stringently tested to the highest standards.

The earpads also have polyurethane nano-coating, which makes them easy to wipe and clean. Here are some of the key features you can expect from the HDJ-X10: The earcups feature a large circular screw to attach them to the headband hinge, which makes the whole device feel a little bulky. Designed for comfort through periods of extended use, the Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10 headphones are great for people who will be spending several hours in action. I loved the sound of my HDJ-2000MK2s. I loved them so much that I didn’t use any other pair of cans for DJing since getting them – for me, they had the right balance of low end “oomph”, clear mids, and airy highs.

The lower frequencies get a lot more attention here, making it easier to pinpoint specific beats when you’re mixing. The new carrying case is flatter, which makes it slip into DJ bags easier (the HDJ-2000MK2 had a bulky clamshell case that reminded me of the UFOs in the TV series “V”), though I found it to be a less rigid than I would’ve liked. Inside the case are four slots for SD cards and a pouch for thumb drives on one side, and a compartment for the HDJ-X10 headphones in the other. No doubt Pioneer DJ has aimed these headphones straight at club DJs who spin with CDJ media players – if that’s you, then this bag will be the only thing you need. Conclusion I liked the comfort and sound of the HDJ-X10 so much that I use it both in and out of the DJ booth. There’s also a compartment for your HDJ-X10 DJ headphones too, so everything doesn’t get jumbled together. The mids and highs are quite similar between the HDJ-X10 and HDJ-2000MK2, and if there are differneces then they are subtle enough for you not to her a marked difference when auditioning the two headphones.

You might think that a ‘good’ pair of headphones is a universal concept, but the qualities we look for in a set for DJing aren’t necessarily the same as those of a top pair for home-listening, gaming or studio use. For example, when it comes to studio headphones, the key quality we’d look for is honesty – the ability to accurately translate your mixes as they’ll sound on a top-quality sound system. For music listening, by contrast, it can be desirable for your headphones to ‘flatter’ your favourite music a little, perhaps by boosting the bass and dulling any harsh high frequencies.

What to look for in a good pair of DJ headphones

The comfortable fit and noise isolation would even make this a good choice as a pair of headphones to use in an office where you don’t want anyone bothering you while you work. Hi-Res audio Hi-Res audio files could make a slight difference in sound quality, but you’re going to need to play on a top notch sound system in a properly tuned room, such as in Ministry Of Sound’s The Box, to fully maximise its aural advantages. The HDJ-X10 headphones are equipped with our new 50-mm high definition driver, making them the world's first DJ headphones to reproduce high-resolution sound from 5 Hz to 40 kHz. The direct drive structure, with a newly developed diaphragm shape and voice coil, delivers high quality sound without loss of quality due to mechanic loss.
