Judging by the first impressions, the only complaint people have right now is that it’s not suited for their larger lawns. But GTech don’t advertise it as a solution for larger lawns, so this one is more about the misunderstanding rather than the mower itself. The CityMower has also got a clever processor on board that ensures the blades maintain a constant speed through any length of grass, thereby allegedly increasing the 18v battery’s capacity by up to 20%. Even with that boost, the mower will run for about 25 minutes on a hour-one charge, which is about average for a mower of this dimension. In comparison to the old Gtech Falcon that took almost 5 hours to charge, this is a massive improvement. Not only does that beat the older Gtech model but now competes very favourably with the likes of Bosch and Flymo. The run time of 40 minutes is the same as the old Gtech model and is very respectable for a cordless mower of this size. The Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 has a removable safety key which provides additional safety, this is located on the body of the mower behind the carrying handle. The simple answer is no, the battery powered mower is not going to be as powerful are a mains powered mower.

With no trailing wires or messy petrol motors, you'll be glad you chose a Gtech cordless lawn mower. Is it easy to use? Most mowers should just need the handles attaching and the grass box assembling, with fabric bags simpler to construct than plastic box-style collectors. Switching between cutting heights should be easy. Some mowers need to be turned over and the entire axle moved, but a single lever simply moved through the range is ideal. With regard to the mono blade, I initially thought the same regarding the balance and vibrations, however I didn’t notice anything to worry about. When I was cutting the extremely long grass and the blade was somewhat covered with damp grass, you do notice a slight wobble as the mower starts up. As soon as it is up to speed there is no vibration. Gtech are very excited about their new blade technology with the Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 and it’s easy to see why. The mower contains a carbon steel single blade which allows the mower to cut through grass in a more efficient and effective manner than previously. As with all cordless lawn mowers, not being tethered by the cord not only makes it easier to mow the lawn, but safer, quieter and more environmentally friendly. Metal blades are generally sharper and provide a cleaner cut to the grass blade, resulting in a neater, tidier and superior finish to your lawn and garden. The metal blades on the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower can be sharpened when needed, unlike plastic blades. Like the Gtech above, this model also features automatic blade speed adjustment. This means that in standard-length grass the motor hums along at low revs, saving battery power in the process. But when it detects a section of long grass, it seems to almost double the power, scything through it like a knife through blancmange. As soon as it’s passed through, the motor reverts to its more sedate pace again. You can safely expect about 40 minutes of cutting time on a full charge. Do you like a stripey lawn? Well sorry the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 does NOT have a roller at the rear. There are many small differences between the two models, including some which seem like regressions in the newer model such as the Falcon having a 1cm wider cutting width (thankfully this shouldn’t make a real difference in day to day use but it’s still interesting to see).

To avoid any misunderstandings like the gentleman who bought this for his large lawn, we must note again that this lawn mower is meant as a “mini” version and designed for smaller lawns. That’s why it doesn’t feature a grass box. The CLM50 lawnmower is designed for small to medium-sized gardens, so if that sounds like you, then the GTech CLM50 is a fantastic option to buy! However, this does not mean they are not as good as mains powered mowers if you take all factors into consideration. A good example of how T3 performs hands-on testing of cordless lawn mowers can be seen in our Stihl RMA 443 VC review. We have a clear methodology when reviewing products and mowers are no exception, with us first assembling and then using wireless lawn mowers to actually cut grass ourselves in a real world environment. Taking everything into consideration, we believe that Gtech have produced a brilliant piece of kit. It’s both powerful and lightweight and it completely removes the fusses of running extension leads through windows/avoiding cables you find with electric mowers or the noise/added maintenance of petrol ones. There are a variety of benefits to buying a cordless lawn mower in comparison to the more traditional petrol or electric models, including: The grass box on the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is very easy to remove by simply lifting the flap and unhooking. The grass clippings empty from the box with no obstructions. This is a hard topped collection box with a carry handle at the top. The grass box can be folded flat to help reduce storage space required. The Gtech Cordless Lawnmower 2.0 is equipped with one 42 cm wheeled carbon steel metal mower blade that provides them two very effective benefits… Update May 2021 – Please note, There is now a new model of this Gtech cordless mower, a full review can be found here – Gtech CLM50 Lawnmower Review The only real downsides of the product are that it can’t cut grass super short and the handle isn’t height-adjustable, although the last point should only be an issue for people on extreme ends of the vertical scale. Still, it would have been a nice feature to have given the price.
