Battlezone: Mechanicus – Charadon comes with everything you need to fight battles in the Charadon Sector. This is a forge world in a box, comprising two double-sided gaming boards measuring 30” x 22.4”, plus a whopping 13 pieces of highly detailed plastic terrain. This set is perfect for Combat Patrol- and Incursion-sized missions and a great way to begin your collection. From here is the detail work. I use acrylic inks over the raised details on top and inside the barriers to add some visual interest and serve as the underlayer for anywhere I want hazard stripes. I then custom printed hazard stripes on decal paper and cut them to size since I’m lazy and didn’t feel like masking and airbrushing everything. They’ll go right on top of the ink and with some Micro Set will soften and conform to the part. You may need to use a knife to poke holes where the plastic overlaps a rivet hole. After the ink dries a layer of sepia wash tones things downs and blends it all in. For the mechanical bits in the pillars I applied some Dirty Down Verdigris and then applied some sepia wash to blend it in. Most of the material I use is intentionally inexpensive and designed for large applications. This process would work very well for batch painting, and that actually might be beneficial if you want everything to look consistent. Using custom mixed oil washes and sponging parts can lead to slight variations in tone and appearance depending on how consistent you are between batches, but to be honest it’s not that big of a deal and things aren’t supposed to look perfect anyway. The Ferratonic Furnace provides a constant supply of Metal. Upgade to increase production and storage limits. This is another spot I don’t want to spend a ton of time, so I take an old flared out brush or a piece of sponge and just dapple Typhus Corrosion all over the surface to give it lots of grime spots and dirt. The Battlezone: Mechanicus - Galvanic Magnavent set is an incredibly detailed and striking piece of terrain, letting you add multiple levels and create an even more immersive battlefield. Doing the rusty recess shade will definitely add time to the process, but you could probably skip it if you find a primer spray that’s a perfect rusty colour. I found the Laser Cut Brown a little too reddish to be left unadulterated. The shell-blasted ruin of the Sanctum Administratus will make a great addition to any battlefield, enhancing the immersive feeling that many battles have raged in this space before — and that the battle you are participating in is only part of a larger conflict. I feel like I’ve talked-up this terrain enough. I’ve been gushing about it ever since we got our hands on Shadow War and I assembled the Terrain.I think the main reason is because the possibilities of this terrain are pretty bonkers. Do you want to construct a massive oil rig? You can. Do you want a sprawling factory floor? Done. Do you just want a few extra set pieces for your collection? Naturally! And I might not be a huge fan of the special rules, you can always just run them as ruins. If you’re after a Character who can inspire her Sisters to great deeds of faith, look no further than Aestred Thurga, Reliquant at Arms. She bears the Auto-Tapestry of the Emperor’s Judgement into battle and is accompanied by the Hagiolater Agathae Dolan, who dutifully records details of the heroic feats she witnesses on the battlefield.
