I'm still copying my files to the 2TB SSD I installed, but I'm a Roon user and have been able to try the unit out via Roon immediately. Fantastic sound straight out of the box and I cant imagine anyone would be disappointed with this. Whilst my Auralic has the upgraded chips you will find in the master addition of this unit, the differences are quite subtle and the sound of the DAC is very similar. Total bargain for the entry price. The unit itself is a fantastic thing, full of functionality and well laid out and designed. I have bought this and am setting it up for a friend as he's not too technical, but this does give me the perspective of comparing it with my own unit which is Auralic Altair G1, which uses the same DAC chips (but was more than double the price). The DMP-A6 is equipped with a third-generation XMOS 316 USB interface ensuring perfect reception and decoding of the USB audio stream. This supports audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA. For optical ports (Coaxial and Toslink), they support DSD 64 (DoP) and PCM 192 24Bit. The DMP-A6 Master Edition is equipped with balanced analog circuitry from the DAC chip to the stereo XLR and RCA outputs. This limits noise and channel separation provides better signal quality. We test the Eversolo plugged into our reference PMC Cor integrated amplifier and Epos ES14N speakers, as well as more price-compatible kit such as the Arcam A5 amp and KEF LS50 speakers. We play songs from various sources: hi-res files stored on our Naim Uniti Core server and laptop, songs streamed from Tidal Connect, Apple Music, BBC 6 Radio and more.Firmware Updating​Speaking of firmware! The process to update is fairly easy, the only real issue I personally ran into was a USB drive to update the Z8 with. You have to use an exFAT formatted device which I had none on hand due to all my portable storage being too big to allow exFAT(outside of portable SSDs and I wasn’t formatting those). I happened to find an old 8gb SD card on a determined hunt for an old storage device so, I used that and an SDcard reader to update and it worked just fine. Eversolo gives us XLR and RCA analog outputs which are selectable via software. This is handy for those with desktop systems where one output feeds a headphone amplifier, the other goes to active speakers, and the user can choose which one (or both) is live at any given time. On the digital input side, we get RCA, Toslink, USB, and Bluetooth with support for aptX HD and LDAC among others. It’s not quite the largest array of inputs you’ll find on a device of this size, but likely adequate for the needs of most users even if this was purely a “traditional” DAC. Eversolo has made an excellent streamer with well-implemented ESS DAC chips and an excellent pre-amp stage. The design of the streamer, and the layout of the menus are excellent and it really is a very impressive device for the money. AT A GLANCE The Eversolo performed skillfully as a transport using either coaxial or optical connections. It displayed the usual traits I associate with that task being expertly handled – convincing transient snap, precision imaging, impressive dynamic contrast, and a spacious soundstage. Despite the Eversolo being the least expensive component in the chain by a considerable margin, it never felt like a weak link. Switching to USB did make a noteworthy improvement in tonal density and dynamic scale, and I would thus choose that option ten times out of ten. That said, my experience is that the Aquarius DAC almost always performs better via USB than SPDIF, so I can’t say how much of this improvement lies with the Eversolo versus the DAC itself.

the results are spectacular... exceptional detail retrieval an an extremely even presentation... is a streamer that simply gets out of the way of the music being played. The Bluetooth 5.0 reception of the DMP-A6 uses a Qualcomm QCC5125 chip. This supports the SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD and LDAC high-definition transmission codecs, allowing you to enjoy high-quality sound reproduction via Bluetooth. You can rip cd’s (just add comptable cd drive to usb OTG port or use another port with OTG cable), it finds the Album Covers. When listening to Gabrielle Aplin’s Home, for example, her vocals are stunningly detailed and it is a beautiful song. However, this is a song that needs to be portrayed with emotion and I found the DMP-A6 to be a little too clean to sound utterly convincing. Though the vocal harmonies are not lost and it’s easy to hear all the layers in the recording. There is a great sense of air and separation going on, however, the harmonics from the piano are a little muted. Personal grips with the DAC-Z8?​

The resulting sound was everything I’d come to expect from Campfire’s bombastic headphones. That meant satisfyingly punchy blast beats from German technical death metal firm Obscura, and wonderfully rich and emotive vocals from Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice. Magdalena Bay’s Mercurial World has been accurately described as a “dazzling pop smoothie”, and this setup allowed its mixture of synth-pop, disco, and electronica ingredients to shine through with an abundance of energy. The Cascade benefits from a clean, controlled, well-balanced chain, and certainly doesn’t need any additional warmth or bass bloom. The Eversolo/Musician combo proved to be an excellent pairing. I side-loaded smart tube and now can get add free music videos on screen, can cast to phone and amazingly mirror to tv.
