Description

More than almost any other Space Marines Chapter in Warhammer 40K (except perhaps the Ultramarines), there are a multitude of Dark Angels characterswith models on the tabletop. Let’s meet the Dark Angels gang, and get to know some of the friendly faces you might encounter if you start collecting a Dark Angels army.

However, while I don’t want this style to be a one-off, I don’t want it to become too common either. The novella is the perfect length for this style I think. Gav Thorpe did something similar for his novel Purging of Kadillus, which was also about the Dark Angels, but his character viewpoints fewer and as best as I recall, he didn’t change tenses and perspectives when moving between them. That’s two instances in total I know of. But yeah, this is a unique style and it should keep its uniqueness because while C Z Dunn pulled it off brilliantly, it is easy to see how this can NOT work out, and how some people can be put off by it. Dark Angels are Space Marines, and they don’t fall far from the Index’s tree – you can see the Faction Focus for the Core Chapters here which covers the generic information for both Marines and Gladius Task Force.

Miniatures-wise Dark Vengeance contains two opposing armies, Chaos and Dark Angels. If you managed to get your hands on the Box Set with the limited edition Chaplain model, he also had a dope datasheet that gave him bonuses to fighting Chaos.

Let's put the Dark Angels contingent from the Dark Vengeance 40K starter box into an army list to see how it holds together as a viable 'beginners' force. It's finally here, the box set to bring people into 6th edition, to create a whole new generation of Dark Angels and Chaos generals and to bolster the armies of those who have gone before; Warhammer 40k Dark Vengeance! The How to Play guide is for beginners, but it is actually really useful for people going from 5th edition to 6th edition. I would recommend reading it if you haven’t read the rules yet. It’s laid out in a really nice way. Armored company – Predators are Troops; Kratos are elites; Infantry can take Land Raiders and Spartans as transports After Horus’s defeat on Terra, Lion El’Jonson returned home to Caliban, only to find the planetary defences active. Luther, in the Lion’s absence, had betrayed the Imperium and his Primarch, firing upon the fleet in an effort to destroy the Dark Angels once and for all. The Lion wasn’t so easily defeated, and leada force to kill Luther and end this insurrection. In ninth edition 40k the Deathwing and Ravenwing were each asubfaction within a subfaction. In 10th edition their differences are now captured in their datasheets. That said, expect a Deathwing and a Ravenwing Detachment to appear in the eventual Dark Angels codex.

Spawned from the gene-Seed of theprimarch Lion El’Jonson, they inherited many of his traits. These include a passion for victory, an overwhelming desire for martial perfection, and – unfortunately for their story – a certain arrogance and tendency to keep secrets. This mash up flesh and machinery is the Helbrute and he has been the source of much discussion here in the office. Could this be the Chaos equivalent of a Dreadknight? Necrons, Grey Knights, Space Marines, and Chaos Marines are all good options for new players. [3] X Research source Some factions can be difficult to play because they rely on complex rules. The first person perspective from 10+ pows was a real weird one, but after gettin'into it I totally enjoyed the ride and totally loved the three deliciously brutal ones about Mortis Metalikus the Helbrute relationship to his brother Kranon the Relentless, the Imperial Commissar turned Cultist with his uniform stitched on him, and Arion's tale about his outliving twice his Battle-Brothers exterminated by Orks and Tyranids.

The Tactical and Ravenwing sergeants are Ld9 as per the Dark Vengeance roster details. This would actually be a 10 points apiece Veteran Sergeant upgrade from the DA Codex where these sergeants would only be Ld8 at base. To be honest this might be very worthwhile upgrade as the Master no longer has the battlefield-wide Rites of Battle Ld boost in the 6th Edition Codex so a good internal unit Ld value is essential. The Lion isn’t as good as he looks: For 380 Points, it’s very difficult to justify that much on a model that controls as little space as the Lion does. While in Gladius he can advance and charge, and he will absolutely mow down most things he touches, his low wound count and middling resiliency for his points can often leave him on cleanup duty or struggling to cross the board in the face of armies with guns bristling. Definitely a fun unit and one that’s reasonably viable, but not one to expect to see on top tables any time soon.
