About this deal

Although wetsuits are pretty robust pieces of kit that can take a beating or two, it is not advised that you wash them in a washing machine. Some stronger suits can withstand a session in the washing machine, but it is not advised and should only happen occasionally if the suit smells from stagnant water, for example. However, it will pose a risk to the suit so if you don't want to risk causing damage to your expensive wetsuit, we advise you give it a thorough hand wash instead. Focus on removing any sand in the wetsuit, too- this will avoid it drying in the suit and rubbing your skin when putting it on for your next surf. Watersports are invigorating and always fun until you need to change out of your wetsuit on a sandy beach or a dirty street without a changing mat…when you are tired after a day in the water the last thing you want to think about is keeping your wetsuit clean. We have all been there. Similar to the damaging effect of heat, the use of strong detergents can ruin a wetsuits performance.

Neoprene works best when it is against your skin, so if you’re going to layer up, be sure to put additional layers on top, rather than under your neoprene layer. Even a swimsuit can bunch up and be uncomfortable, much better to enjoy the stretchy wetsuit. Can I wash my wetsuit? The zip should be another focal area of the suit for washing. If the zip isn’t properly rinsed, it can build up with salt, which eventually clogs the zip and stops it from working.

Rip Curl Surf Series 50L Wetsuit Bucket Bag

Like a good changing mat, it allows you to keep your wetsuit or wet clothes from elements like sand and dirt. Just open it up, stand on it, discard your clothes onto it, and pull the drawstring to seal it all in. It works great for adults and kids. And when it is not in use, it can fold into a small unobtrusive item you can store anywhere. The wetsuit warranty will cover failures in a wetsuit deemed to be failures in the manufacturing process or faults caused by material failure as below: When you put the suit on the hanger, keep it inside out for the first part of the drying process. Not only is it more pleasant to put on (the dampness of a wet wetsuit touching your skin is never nice), but it also reduces the opportunity for mildew and odours to build. Available in two sizes, we recommend the larger one. This fake grass mat is ideal for keeping in the boot of your car or as a doormat for your van. It can be rinsed off and dries easily, but the reason it is our favorite is that it gets sand out from between your toes and off your feet, as well as looking the coolest. Why do we need to wash our wetsuits every time? Well, over time, the salt from seawater can corrode the neoprene of the suit, degrading the material slowly. Which is why it is essential to flush it out with fresh water after use.

Most surfers will have a used or at least seen a couple of Tubtrugs at the beach as they are so handy for storing your wet surf gear in. Unlike most surf changing mat/bags, Tubtrugs are 1005 waterproof and incredibly durable. The Tubtrugs 9 Gallon Tub is an extra large and specifically wide and shallow tub that is amazing for changing in and out of wetsuits. You can fill it with water to give your feet a wash before tipping it out and storing your wetsuit in it. This step is optional, but using a wetsuit shampoo is the best way to clean your wetsuit. Most wetsuit shampoo’s not only wash your wetsuit but also protect and treat the neoprene. This therefore helps keep your wetsuit in its’ best condition for as long as possible. Finding the best wetsuit changing mat for you all depends on your specific needs. What types of terrain will you be changing on most often? Do you need an extra lightweight one for the changing room at your gym? Are you a surfer, windsurfer, paddleboarder, or an all-around water athlete? Surviving amongst unwashed salt and urine is not the life you want for your wetsuit, so make sure to follow our tips to ensure you get maximum wear and use out of your suit! Washing Your Wetsuit If you are going on holiday or for a rare trip to the beach, then a simple towel is sufficient for getting changed. If you are a surfer or open-water swimmer who is constantly faced with the problem of sandy or dirty feet when changing, then a mat is probably a great idea. You don’t need a special type of mat to get changed on, though. Anything will do. A tile of carpet, an old duffel bag, a doormat, a foam sleeping pad section, or any other number of things you can stand on to get changed.

BUX is watertight! Use it to rinse your gear to keep it clean and fresh or under your XRail to catch all the drips while drying your wetsuit, keeping your floor dry. Wetsuits come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes, made solely to keep you surfing for as long as possible. Ideally you’ll just be out in your boardies and a rashie for sun protection a hot summers day. But if the water’s not that warm or a summer storm is coming, then neoprene shorts or a NeoFlex top will do the job.

So, if you’re a watersports addict or a watersports newbie, please keep it clean (your wetsuit) easily with a wetsuit changing mat that gives you what you need–a stress-free way to finish your water activity strong. Here are our recommendations for mats for changing at the beach for swimmers, surfers, and anyone else who needs to get changed at the beach and doesn’t like getting sand everywhere. Excessive heat can have an extremely damaging effect on a wetsuits material, which, in turn degrades any future performance. If you put your wetsuit in the washing machine do not expect the same wetsuit to come out when it’s finished. Inexpensive and innovative, the Decathlon Floor Mat is perfect for separating you from the floor while changing. More geared towards swimmers to use in the changing rooms, it can also work for a wetsuit changing mat. Accessories made from neoprene rubber can be divided in three different categories: gloves, hoods, and boots. These neoprene accessories will be necessary when you’re a cold water surfer.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - At The Wetsuit Centre we always want to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction. You should also wash out your neoprene accessories after use, such as your wetsuit hoods, boots and gloves. The strong weather-resistant material is soft and cushioned underfoot and doesn’t risk being damaged by any kind of rough or jagged surface. The hollow cutout pattern allows any sand and water to fall through the holes so that you don’t get it on your wetsuit or dry clothes. Because it is intended more as a protective floor surface as opposed to a beach changing mat, it is very heavy duty and fairly heavy. This means it isn’t the most portable of mats, but if you have a van, it doubles up as a door/shower mat.
