About this deal

The final comparison will be based on the warranty of each machine. Its important to have a good warranty and its even more important to know if your metal detector breaks that someone is going to honor their warranty and fix the problem. I have had nothing but a great experience with Garrett's Customer Service Department. They are always fast, courteous and they honor their warranties. The real intelligence of the system is that the Multi-IQ processing will collate and compare the signals from alloperating frequencies, analasing the similarities and differences between them to get a clearer picture of what's really down there. This gives you better target ID and discrimination at greater depth, and the versatility to perform in a wider range of ground types, handling mineralisation, wet sand, etc. That means you can find and identify targets that a single frequency will struggle with. To cut the long story short, it seems that for the first time in the last 10-15 years the market of metal detectors experiences a real revolution, and the Vanquish series is a big chunk of this revolution. Now, let’s see what interesting features this revolution brings. Similarly, the Discrimination Segments at the top of the screen on the 440 are more segmented for more precision. The Minelab Vanquish outperforms the Garrett Ace series of metal detectors in depth, target separation, multi frequency options, and audio options. The Vanquish is a simplified version of the Minelab Equinox which is one of the most popular metal detectors on the market today.

as seen in the Equinox Series which made it a real game changer in the metal detecting world and by far the best selling metal detector in 2018, 2019 and probably all-time to date. This machine was considered revolutionary as it could detect using a frequency of 15 KHz and 3 KHz. The coil is elliptical and not circular like the Equinox coil which means it can be marginally easier to negotiate through stubble. Both frequencies have benefits and also shortcomings. Lower frequencies take longer to process, could consequently suffer from “target masking” and would also be less sensitive to smaller, thinner targets. The Nokta Makro Simplex+ is a great choice but has a higher cost than the Vanquish 340 and only a single frequency. Despite this, the machine performs very well and has more features than the Vanquish 340. Larger Coil: Still a Double-D one, yet it is a larger one with 12*9 inches of dimensions… This will make the machine about 0.3 pounds (100 Grams) heavier (not significant I would say …) yet this will allow you to cover much more space while detecting.

The 440 is the second model of the series, pretty similar to the 340, yet it has some additional useful features that you can utilize for your own benefit to come up with more finds …

VANQUISH Software Update 1.1

Target id on the display is the same for all three Vanquish models and ranges from -9 to 40 the same as the Equinox. I do also use the pinpoint mode on the Equinox and this is not present on the Vanquish 340 although it does make an appearance on the 440. Again it is not essential. I have been detecting for over 40 years and most detectors I have used in that time did not come with a pinpoint mode. It is usually easy enough to find the centre point with a few sweeps of the coil anyway. Vanquish 440, the “middle brother” of the series, is more advanced in terms of features. It has four search modes – Coins, Jewelry, Relics, and Custom mode where you can choose specific settings, save them, and discriminate certain metal types. The discrimination scale is bigger, as well, which means more control over target spotting.

There were some very top end machines that offered two frequencies by a clever way of using a harmonic of a single frequency to produce another frequency (The Whites DFX).Once the Micro-USB Cable is connected to your VANQUISH detector, run the MUU: 4. Open the Minelab Update Utility. Connect the VANQUISH to the computer USB port with the Micro-USB cable. VANQUISH will automatically power on when connected to the computer. The 440 has more sensitivity settings (10 levels compared to the 340s 4 levels) with the same monochrome numerical Target ID. This model also has one more depth indicator level than the 340. The Vanquish 440 also comes with wired headphones, whereas the 340 does not. Both run on 4 AA batteries and have a 3-year warranty. Navigating the three Search Modes with their unique Discrimination Patterns on the Vanquish 340 is intuitive. The frequency a metal detector uses and its effect on certain types of metal has been well documented. In fact, you can further read how frequencies effect different metals in my article metal detector discrimination and conductivity here. Unlike the steady and repeatable tones, you should get them when you hit something like a US coin on the surface or within 6 feet.In this regard, you might soon join the club by growing to appreciate the simplicity of only having three target tones. Depth Performance

Adjustments to the Sensitivity Level are made with the middle button, between the Volume and Search Mode buttons. The 340’s display shows you the Sensitivity Level indicator as you toggle through to find the highest stable sensitivity level. The company has decided, it seems, to produce this series to offer these possibilities at a lower price tag! This is all good … The 340 only has three adjustable volume levels where as the 440 and 540 models have ten adjustable levels. A handy function to have is the Iron Volume which is only available on the 540. Search Modes: you’ve got 3 (Coins, Jewelry and All Metal) and that’s it … There is no custom mode that could be beneficial once you learn the machine fully, but this remains a good thing for beginners or those who like to keep things simple. Minelab has been a leader in metal detecting technology for 35 years. They are known for making metal detectors that can combat even the most difficult soil conditions. Minelab has launched some industry changing metal detecting technology in its time, and its newest line is no different! Now if you want to make sure you eliminate all false signals you would normally run iron bias high. This indicates to the machine that when it is over a mixed-signal target it should eliminate the high tones. In other words, the “bias” is toward iron tones. Lastly, we have Iron Bias. Now, this is actually a very useful feature and although the Vanquish 340 and 440 have iron bias it is fixed at “high”. The 540 has both high and low. So what is iron bias? Simply put it is the ability of the detector to distinguish between both ferrous (junk) and non-ferrous (the good stuff) signals. Looking at how I use a metal detector and where I use it I could confidently say the Vanquish 340 would do the job and do it probably just as well as my Equinox 600. You know it would only be a Minelab with the Multi-IQ technology. This multi-frequency feature outperforms many metal detectors with a single search frequency and is the ideal budget metal detector.
