This is one of those rods that I have no problem lending to a friend as I know that he or she is not going to mess it up. I keep a few extra GX2 rods on the boat for when I have company come from out of town.Whether you are a beginner fisherman or an experienced angler, it is hard to go wrong with adding a few of the Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 models into your collection. The thing I find most perplexing is why the GX2 is classed as a freshwater rod. Yes, the 4 feet ultralights have ice fishing written all over them. The rods hardware has also been vastly improved, with the introduction of the Ugly Tuff guides and Ugly Stik clear tip. The Tuff guides are made of a one-piece, stamped stainless steel construction that provides maximum durability and no ceramic inserts that could accidentally pop put. The Ugly Stik Clear Tip technology is taken from the original Ugly Stik range but the advancement in blank technology improves the overall sensitivity of the rod tip ensuring you feel every bump or hit on the rod tip. They come in both casting and spinning variants and we have reviewed both of them. You can see below that we found them equally good. Being serious about angling doesn’t really mean spending hundreds of dollars unnecessarily. The expensive rods are good indeed but this isn’t bad either. The eyelets might begin to corrode after a couple of years of usage in saltwater but it is nothing to worry about as you can always wipe them clean. Price One would argue that Shakespeare is particularly confident with the GX2 – and they’d be right because it’s extremely robust. Ugly Stik GX2 Disadvantages
For those wanting a more general purpose inshore option there are 6 popular medium power rods at 5’6”, 5’10”, 6’, 6’6”, 7’, and 9’. DurableGrip– The new grip is made of an EVA material which feels very comfortable in your hands even after hours of casting and retrieving. Something that is new, is the addition of the Ugly Stik logo in the butt end of the rod.
