About this deal

The Turtle Beach Audio Hub will be available for the Stealth™ 600 USB for Xbox and Stealth 600 MAX for Xbox soon! The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to 3.14.8 (201) for iOS and 3.14.8 (232) for Android. Weirdly, The Messenger – a platformer with music made to sound like something you’d hear on 8- and 16-bit-style consoles – presented some of the only noticeable audio hiccups. Some complex, high notes in the music would come through scratchy and muddled.

There’s also a button on the left earpiece that can activate ‘superhuman hearing’ mode. This setting dials down the bass a little and heightens higher frequencies so you can hear details such as light footsteps more clearly. I’m standing on the outskirts of a small town, and the ‘superhuman’ mode emphasizes other players' movements quite noticeably, making it easier to follow their movements as they mill around me. That might not be essential for open-world games such as ESO, but it’ll certainly be handy for team-based shooters where you need to pay close attention to the location and movement of rival players, such as Overwatch 2.The headset’s newly-added metal-reinforced headband and glasses-friendly design mean even players with big heads and glasses frames aren’t going to be made to feel uncomfortable during marathon sessions. We have very minor complaints about the quality of the hinges and joints that allow the cups to move and the headband to adjust, but through some quite intense testing (over a period of months!) the headset has held up and is as good as new now, some 100+ days into our review period. This headset strikes a wonderful balance regardless of what you’re playing, which is especially impressive given the conservative asking price. Cooling gel-infused ear cushions ensure all of the sound is trapped within your ears, stopping any leakage from the game itself, voice chat and all other applications in which you’re engaged. With variants available for both Xbox and PlayStation, this is a headset that works great, sounds great and will likely only become more useful as exclusives are released for next-gen consoles. In terms of inputs, everything is on the left earcup. Buttons for Bluetooth connectivity, power, and audio are all nestled closely together. Volume and balance wheels are found just above them, with obvious indentations making it relatively easy to adjust things without pulling the headset off completely. And thanks to a much longer-lasting battery, you can wear the Stealth 700 Gen 2 through lots of long gameplay sessions. According to Turtle Beach, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 should last through 20 hours on a single charge, up from just 10 hours per charge on the original. Anecdotally, I found the headset lasted through about three days of regular use on average, even when regularly pairing and unpairing with my smartphone. A 20-hour charge is on the high side of average for a gaming headset, but that should be more than enough for most players, so long as you keep a charging solution handy to top it off between sessions.

The Stealth 700 Gen 2 has a slimmer version of Turtle Beach’s usual built-in microphone. The hard plastic mic is built into the housing of the left earcup, so it sits flush when flipped up into mute position. The flip-down mic is very convenient and easy to use, but can’t really be repositioned. It has a secondary hinge letting you move slightly closer or further from your face, but it’s a far cry from the reshapable wire mics you find from many other manufacturers. The headband is plastic, much like everything else here, but sharp metal innards can be seen clearly. Be careful not to trap your fingers while extending or closing the device after use; I’ve made that mistake with Turtle Beach products in the past. As for the earcups, they’re incredibly snug and comfortable – although glasses-wearers may find them a tad irritating, given how tightly the Stealth 700 Gen 2 hug the head. The Turtle Beach Audio Hub V2 desktop app has received an update to v3.14.6.84 (PC) and v3.14.6.83 (Mac). The Stealth 700 Gen 2 comes fitted with 50mm nanoclear neodymium drivers that emit a smooth, satisfying soundscape that also isn’t afraid to make an explosive impact when it matters. Smooth sounds such as the flowing of rivers and casual banter of Yakuza: Like a Dragon pop just as much as the unpredictable firefights of Modern Warfare . The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX frequency response follows our ideal headphone curve fairly closely. Like many gaming headsets, there’s a slight emphasis in the bass range, usually done to emphasize gunfire and other combat foley. There’s a noticeable dip from 200-600Hz, which will impact the timbre of some instruments when listening to music. Finally, there’s some slight deviation from our target curve in the high end, which is likely where the sound quality takes the biggest hit. Overall the sound is quite enjoyable and does a lot to justify the price point. Lows, mids, and highsThe Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to 3.14.6 (192) for iOS and 3.14.6 (223) for Android. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 houses 50mm nano clear neodymium drivers, so the headset is at its best in complex, more bass-focused environments and games. As such, FPS enthusiasts and shooter gluttons will find the most enjoyment in the more low-end focused sound stage. If things start getting really hectic – we’re looking at you MMO players – the headset can struggle to layer things through in a way that’s easy to parse, and in hectic environments, you might notice the headset’s usual clarity gets a bit muddy. The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to v3.14.5 (189) for iOS and v3.14.5 (220) for Android. Voice chat is intuitive for both variants, with the mic switching on dynamically as you pull it down from its holding position. Audio and mic – Punchy sound and a crystal-clear microphone impress Even with all its changes, though, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 is still a more feature-rich version of the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the last generation of Turtle Beach’s Stealth headsets. Though the plastic band is slightly larger and features a steel frame, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 features the same rotating hinges as the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the same shaped earcups designed to hug your ears.

Like the Stealth 600 Gen 2, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 supports virtual 7.1 surround sound through Windows Sonic, and offers a functional, but not particularly rousing virtual surround sound experience. In games like Apex Legends, you can hear directionality of gunfire, footsteps and other sounds, but sounds coming from your side or behind you sometimes sound disproportionately loud. On the Stealth 700 Gen 2 specifically, I noticed that Windows Sonic created compression issues, which led to little pip noises coming out of nowhere every so often. Simply put, most games sound better with it off. So long as you’ve got a Bluetooth dongle, this is a headset that can be used across multiple platforms with relative ease. It isn’t confined to the console it was made for, which is excellent for those who jump between different machines on a regular basis. A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for Xbox and PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.3). A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.6). The microphone isn’t the most attractive piece of design. It’s a lump of plastic housed within the left earcup, which can be flipped down and switched on whenever you need it. I adore the intuitive nature of this design, meaning you’ll never need to go through the fuss of muting yourself or actually spending an entire match of Overwatch not realising that your rambles at the useless Widowmaker have been heard by the entire lobby. Yes, that happened to me. While it doesn’t reach the high standards set by some of its rivals, those after a competitively priced and incredibly capable gaming headset will be more than satisfied with the Stealth 700 Gen 2.Bluetooth greatly expands the headset’s utility. It’s much easier to pair the headset with a PC, and you can pair it with other devices, like your phone. Better yet, you can pair it with a Bluetooth device and an Xbox simultaneously. This allows you to adjust audio levels on the fly while playing, but also lets you listen to a podcast or take a call on your phone while listening to your Xbox audio at the same time. (As someone who likes to put on a podcast while playing some games, this was a huge revelation for me). A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for Xbox and PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.1). Coming in at a mid-range price, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 offers an abundance of audio capabilities and other features that will likely prove overkill for your average console player.
