Thunderstrike wasn't the first hero to replace or spin-off of Thor with similar powers. A few years prior to Masterson's ascent as Thor and then Thunderstrike, the Korbinite alien Beta Ray Bill became worthy of Mjolnir, first clashing with Thor for control of the hammer, then becoming a steadfast ally of the Thunder God when Odin rewarded Bill with his own weapon, the hammer Stormbreaker (again with Mjolnir-esque power).

Essential to capturing the essence of Waititi’s aesthetic is the bright explosion of color represented in every aspect of the project, and that extends to the costumes created by designer Mayes C. Rubeo. An Emmy winner for her costume designs on WandaVision and well-versed in the world of Thor from her work on Ragnarok, Rubeo is no stranger to the Marvel Universe. She is also a frequent collaborator with Waititi, garnering an Oscar nom for her inspired costumes in his Jojo Rabbit. For Thor: Love and Thunder, Rubeo found inspiration from Waititi’s endless energy and joyful approach to filmmaking, finding ways of creating looks lesser artists would find impossible. We spoke to Rubeo about some of the more challenging costumes audiences see in Love and Thunder, and how she sees herself as a facilitator in collaborating with the actors to help them build their characters. After Thor is deemed unworthy and he leaves his superhero days behind while taking the name of Odinson, the responsibility falls on the shoulders of Jane who becomes worthy of Mjolnir and takes on the mantle of Mighty Thor. 8. Over the years, Thor has been replaced or temporarily shared his power a few times, and a few folks have managed to wield Mjolnir, but the concept took off in a big way just a few years ago when writer Jason Aaron took over Thor's adventures, eventually putting Thor through a chain of events that made him unworthy of lifting Mjolnir, causing him to temporarily abandon it on Earth's moon. A Closer Look at the Costumes in “Thor: Love and Thunder”
Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder costume display and associated programming is generously supported by The Walt Disney Company Australia & New Zealand and the US Consulate General Melbourne. Taika Waititi directed Thor: Love and Thunder from a script he wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Of course, Thor eventually returned to Earth (like we said, whatever 'eternity' means in comic books), reclaiming Mjolnir and his power from Masterson. But Eric Masterson wasn't left high-and-dry – Odin rewards Masterson with the Uru mace called Thunderstrike, a mysterious Asgardian weapon with similar powers to Mjolnir, which he then uses to fight crime under the codename Thunderstrike after his mighty weapon. Costume designer Mayes Rubeo worked in collaboration with a stellar creative team – many of whom worked together on other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects and even Star Wars – including the director of photography, production and set designers and hair and makeup to design these iconic looks. This style is inspired by the 80s comic version of Thor and consists of the color theme of electric blue, silver, and gold.
