I did not really learn anything about the past.It was set in a time period that I liked and it reminded me of our class novel (Wolf Brother). Maybe that’s what spirit song is made of - it’s not made of words or even of music - it’s made of the spirits of us creatures who are brave enough to look each other square in the eye and say this is me and this is you and we’re both fierce and we’re both afraid. Equals. As one.’ I loved this book. Harby and Charlie were my favourite characters because they’re the main characters and they take risks. I didn’t much like Harby’s parents, but that’s because they only appear at the end of the book so I didn’t really get to know them.

Some of this book was funny but there were some very serious points too. One was when Charlie ran away without thinking. This could have been really dangerous - and it made Charlie swear!I laughed...I cried. I loved it. A stunning debut. This is a perfect class read for Lower Key Stage 2 and above, and great for fans of: Boot: Small Robot, Big Adventure by Shane Hegarty; The Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell; and The 1000 Year Old Boy by Ross Welford.

A beautiful story of things ancient and eternal. Kirtley convincingly creates and navigates the difficult landscapes of both Stone Age Ireland and contemporary family life in this big-hearted, gripping debut. Kelly McCaughrainThe story is very educational and contains lots of information about the Stone Age. It manages to be a thoroughly entertaining story while also being full of facts. It does contain some fictional things, such as the Spirit Song; but I think these things adds to the story.
