About this deal

The coin was designed by Royal Mint employee Emma Noble. For the entire Beatrix Potter series, Noble worked from the author’s original watercolour illustrations of her characters. Potter herself was a skilled painter and the Royal Mint took great care to replicate the character and subtle complexity of the original work. Little Benjamin sat down beside his cousin, and assured him that Mr. McGregor had gone out in a gig, and Mrs. McGregor also; and certainly for the day, because she was wearing her best bonnet. The 2017 Benjamin Bunny coin is one of four 50p coins released in 2017 to celebrate the life and times of Beatrix Potter, following on from the 2016 set of five that proved to be an astounding success for the Royal Mint. THEY got amongst flower- pots, and frames and tubs; Peter heard noises worse than ever, his eyes were as big as lolly-pops! If you’re into 50p coins, there’s no doubt you will have heard of the Benjamin Bunny 50p. It’s a coin with a great design that is sought after by many people, but how much is it worth?

This experience sparked Potter’s lifelong interest in the natural world and formed the basis for her love of animals and the countryside that shone through her novels. Where can you buy the coin? Peter and Benjamin blinked in the darkness - the smell of onions was making their eyes water. They waited and waited for the cat to wake up and move - but it didn’t seem to want to wake up at all... In 1909, Potter returned with a degree of reluctance – due to wanting to develop other animal characters – to the rabbits that made her name and remained a favourite with her readers. She did so through the character of Benjamin Bunny, in The Tale of The Flopsy Bunnies. In this story, Benjamin has grown up and married Peter's sister Flopsy. Very 'improvident and cheerful', Flopsy and Benjamin have a large family of children called the Flopsy Bunnies. The story opens by introducing the family and the fact that eating lettuces has a sleep-inducing effect on rabbits – illustrated here with the bunnies asleep in a lettuce patch. When Mr McGregor returned a short time later he was baffled to see his garden covered in tiny rabbit shoe prints. At the time of writing this article in 2022, there are no Benjamin Bunny 50p coins available to buy directly from the Royal Mint, where you can typically find uncirculated versions of popular coins. At this point old Mrs. Rabbit’s voice was heard inside the rabbit hole, calling: “Cotton-tail! Cotton-tail! Fetch some more camomile!” I cannot draw you a picture of Peter and Benjamin underneath the basket, because it was quite dark, and because the smell of onions was fearful; it made Peter Rabbit and little Benjamin cry.

Overall, “The Tale of Benjamin Bunny” is a truly cute and wonderful classic tale from Beatrix Potter about the consequences of being naughty! I would recommend this book to children ages three and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book. Peter fell down head first; but it was of no consequence, as the bed below was newly raked and quite soft. Despite various news outlets covering a supposed ‘error’ Benjamin Bunny 50p coin, the Royal Mint has yet to confirm any error versions of the coin. They took them off the scarecrow. There had been rain during the night; there was water in the shoes, and the coat was somewhat shrunk.

Beatrix Potter was born and raised in London, the eldest child of parents who had both inherited Lancashire cotton fortunes. Her father Rupert, a qualified barrister, married her mother Helen in 1863. They left their family roots in the industrial Midlands to live in a large house in the exclusive area of South Kensington, London. It was here, at number two Bolton Gardens, that Beatrix Potter was born in July 1866 and raised in an affluent Victorian household complete with maids, cooks, butlers and nursemaids. PETER did not eat anything; he said he should like to go home. Presently he dropped half the onions. Beatrix Potter, writer of some of the most beloved children's books of all time, was a woman of immense talent, indefatigable spirit, and a generous heart...Although she grew up in London, she was deeply influenced by long family holidays in the countryside, first in Scotland and later in the English lake district. As was the custom in families of her class, she was educated at home by governesses. An eager student of languages and literature, she grew up loving classic folk and fairy tales...Her talent for drawing and painting was discovered early and encouraged" (Beatrix Potter Society). Her career began with the release of the now-beloved Tale of Peter Rabbit; and her subsequent works expanded into a magical world of anthropomorphic animals such as Tom Kitten, Squirrel Nutkin, and Benjamin Bunny. The wood was full of rabbit holes and in the neatest, sandiest hole of all lived Benjamin’s aunt and his cousins - Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail and Peter Rabbit.

The two little bunnies crept over to the scarecrow and removed Peter’s clothes. ‘Ugh, they’re all wet and soggy from the rain,’ said Peter. What Peter had seen was a large, furry, cat. It prowled over to the basket, stretched itself across the top - and fell fast asleep. Benjamin became a motif in a nursery wallpaper designed by Potter shortly after the tale's publication. [20] Benjamin and Peter made a cameo appearance in the artwork of Potter's The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle (1905), and returned as adult rabbits in The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies (1909) and The Tale of Mr. Tod (1912). Benjamin, on the contrary, was perfectly at home, and ate a lettuce leaf. He said that he was in the habit of coming to the garden with his father to get lettuces for their Sunday dinner. When Mr. McGregor returned about half an hour later, he observed several things which perplexed him.Little Benjamin sat down beside his cousin and assured him that Mr. McGregor had gone out in a gig, and Mrs. McGregor also; and certainly for the day, because she was wearing her best bonnet. Peter’s coat and shoes were plainly to be seen upon the scarecrow, topped with an old tam-o’-shanter of Mr. McGregor’s. Peter blushed bright red. ‘I sneaked into Mr and Mrs McGregor’s garden to eat some cabbages - but I was spotted by Mr McGregor and they came off when I tried to escape. Mr McGregor put them on his scarecrow!’ By the age of 14, she had started a journal, written in code, to record her thoughts, ideas and sketches and kept it up until the age of 30. Her early sketches included detailed images of her pets and other animals. Her father, a talented amateur photographer, had friendships within the London art world including the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais (1829–1896), whose family would holiday with the Potters in Perthshire, Scotland. Millais recognised Potter's talent, telling her: 'Plenty of people can draw, but you have observation.' With the encouragement of her father, Potter went on to study at the National Art Training School in London (now the Royal College of Art).

THEY went away hand in hand, and got upon the flat top of the wall at the bottom of the wood. From here they looked down into Mr. McGregor's garden. Peter's coat and shoes were plainly to be seen upon the scarecrow, topped with an old tam-o- shanter of Mr. McGregor's. Don’t worry,’ said Benjamin. ‘I’ve just seen the McGregor’s go out. Let’s go and find that scarecrow!’ The tale was well received by the Scotsman, [15] but The Times Literary Supplement was not entirely enthusiastic: LITTLE Benjamin said, "It spoils people's clothes to squeeze under a gate; the proper way to get in, is to climb down a pear tree." Old Mrs. Rabbit was a widow; she earned her living by knitting rabbit-wool mittens and muffetees (I once bought a pair at a bazaar). She also sold herbs, and rosemary tea, and rabbit-tobacco (which is what WE call lavender). They left a great many odd little foot-marks all over the bed, especially little Benjamin, who was wearing clogs. We highly recommend avoiding listings that claim to have such error coins until they have been officially confirmed. Benjamin Bunny 50p Coin Design Potter's later life saw her depart from writing to focus on her work relating to land sustainability and conservation. She and William enjoyed thirty years of marriage living a simple life in Near Sawrey, uninterested in the trappings of wealth. Little Benjamin took one look, and then, in half a minute less than no time, he hid himself and Peter and the onions underneath a large basket….
