Rinzler, J.W. (2014). Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy. New York: Abrams Books. ISBN 978-1419707742. The volume pre-dates the release of the movie and as a result some artwork is embargoed because it might reveal the plot. This really isn't how such volumes should be compiled and as such, this is just a poorly conceived piece of merchandise to be made ready with the release of the movie. It should have been a promotional souvenir book. If you can separate the art from the film, this book - like all of the other "Art" volumes dedicated to individual "Star Wars" films, abounds with impressive creativity. As is almost always the case, the blind alleys that the design peeks into are sometimes as compelling, or more compelling, than what makes it to the screen. The sequel trilogy has been, of course, somewhat divisive and the book mostly shies well clear of any particular insight or introspection upon what has worked, and what has not.

The new book from Abrams will take fans inside the exciting second season of the hit series.

The Art of Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, published in 2005, features a foreword by director George Lucas, and presents the early concept art for significant scenes in Episode III, in particular the final lightsaber duel of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on the hellish lava planet of Mustafar, and the medical chamber where Darth Vader is dressed in his trademark armour. I would however disagree about the direction - if anything I think that the concept material captured in this book is even more interesting since it is less about what was in the film but more about what came about because of it - there are many scenes for example that never appeared in the film altogether. I was surprised by the number of practical (physical) aliens and settings; I assumed almost all would be CGI.The Art of Star Wars". The Barbican Centre Archive. City of London Corporation. With more than 300 color illustrations, The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic is the only book to explore all facets of the design and artistic direction of a story that spans comic books, novels, and young adult books, taking Star Wars fans of all ages on a deep dive into the development of the New York Times bestselling series.

As with the previous art-book, The Art of The Rise of Skywalker is full of beautiful illustrations from LucasFilm's and Industrial Light and Magic's production team, which are often accompanied with some damning quotes about particular characters (they really weren't interested in developing John Boyega's Finn in the least, and the idea that they weren't even going to evolve his character design at first rather speaks volumes). Prepare for a galaxy of 'Star Wars' offerings". USA Today. 31 March 2005. Archived from the original on 20 June 2017 . Retrieved 20 June 2017.

I love "Art of..." movie books, and I've generally felt more enthusiastic about the behind-the-scenes aspects of the Star Wars sequel trilogy than about the actual films themselves. So I looked forward to seeing the concept art for The Rise of Skywalker—a film I liked quite a lot the first time I watched it, but less and less with each subsequent viewing. The Art of Star Wars was also the title of an exhibition of Star Wars artwork, props, and costumes mounted by Lucasfilm at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco in 1995. [1] The exhibition was subsequently expanded to various international venues from 2000–2001, including the Barbican Art Gallery in London and the Helsinki City Art Museum. [2] [3] Content [ edit ]

Golden Book · Movie Theater Storybook · Finn's Story · German audio drama · The Force Awakens (French) · Disney Die-Cut Classic Carol Titelman's first volume, originally entitled The Art of Star Wars, was published in 1979 amid a popular trend for behind-the-scenes, " making-of" media products (such as The Making of Star Wars documentary). The book presents a range of pre-production concept art, storyboards, and publicity shots alongside Lucas's screenplay. It has been noted as a rich record of the previsualization behind the 1977 movie that gives the reader an insight into the "possibilities that might have been" in the final production design, and that challenges the "authorial singularity and originality" that normally surrounds the works of a Hollywood auteur. [4] The first volume has been called the definitive work on the development of the cinematographic art of Star Wars, a body of creative works that heavily influenced later films. [5] In The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge , hundreds of full-color concept artworks, sketches, blueprints, and photographs provide fans with a rare glimpse inside Disney Imagineering's creative process and tell the behind-the-scenes story of the challenges the team overcame to create something that could be constructed in our own real world and yet still transport fans to a galaxy far, far away….About wayfinder: "We're not saying it's a holocron, but it has the language of one. It's in the same family and it's holding information." The Art of Star Wars is a series of books by various editors featuring concept art from the Star Wars motion picture saga. The books mainly feature artwork accompanied by a short explanation of the scene and the artist's ideas, but also script notes, posters and other information. The first books were published by Ballantine Books, a subsidiary of Random House, with later editions appearing under the DelRey and LucasBooks imprints. Later titles were published by Harry N. Abrams. Commentary about the development of the story is brief and often never particularly illuminating, but the idea that they even conceptually had far better ideas than what they chose to settle on within the absurd three months they were left to produce a film Disney wanted released for December 2019, rather puts a pin on just how awful rushing to make films without a plan really was in the long run. After Return of the Jedi, Leia worked hard to rebuild Republic, but was discredited when it was revealed that she was Vader's daughter.
