About this deal

In the midst of it all, our hero – the dead man’s brother David (Peter McEnery) – conducted himself with a somnolent naivety that only a charitable suggestion of jet lag could explain. namkoin Gonna throw in possibly the very last gasp for more intelligent children's drama not mentioned here: 'Life Force', made by Peter Tabern's Childsplay Television (who also produced the Cooper-penned... Eventually, police inspector Dimas, armed with the translation of the inscription, works out the full story and shares his theory with Collier. His proof? Three statues of the gods at the temple of Dionysus on Cyprus, identical to Helene, Charalambous and Basileos. And as Collier leaves Cyprus, mysteriously finding at his feet his reward while on the aeroplane home – that suitcase full of cash – the gods wave him goodbye, their games continuing. The series starred Peter McEnery as a man visiting Cyprus to investigate the death of his brother and subsequently being drawn into a strange conspiracy, with the narrative twists of the serial employing various supernatural and mythological motifs. Other major cast members included Alexandra Bastedo, Brian Blessed, Paul Maxwell and Stefan Gryff.

Morrison waits to conclude his deal – but he is horrified when the ‘buyer’ appears. Inspector Dimas is intrigued by what he learns from Collier; later he gets startling news from Morrison’s girlfriend. S seen in 2020 I simply CANNOT understand what the appeal is NOW for this absolutely DREADFUL see-through drama. The show does make a brave stab at showing a Cyprus that isn’t an England in the Mediterranean. Many of the characters speak Greek, there are problems with communication thanks to the language barrier, people eat Greek food, and everyone indulges in ‘Greek activities’. Although the main cast is non-Greek, most of the extras are Greek. It is arguable, however, that the show’s Greek to a level the Greeks would find stereotypical, unrepresentative and more like tourist Greece, but it usually treads just the right side of the line.

All in all it was a complete waste of time in today's world and I shall destroy...not recycle, my copy. When all is revealed and Barry’s murder is solved, there’s one last mystery: Collier discovers that rumours of the deaths of the gods Aphrodite (Alexandra Bastedo from The Champions), Pan (Stefan Gryff) and Dionysus (Brian Blessed in full Brian Blessed mode) have been greatly exaggerated.

For the first five minutes, the BBC miniseries The Aphrodite Inheritance looked as though it might please someone else besides the Cyprus Tourist Board. We subsequently got to feast our eyes on Peter McEnery wandering around Paphos in his vest, Alexandra Bastedo scrambling over a lot of ancient Cretan ruins in four-inch heels and a great deal of blue eye shadow, and Brian Blessed, who appeared to have modelled his performance on The Jolly Green Giant (ho ho ho).

They’re also characterised well. Rather than the Americanised versions of the gods in Cupid, Valentine or Hercules, these are Greek gods in every way: there are even some okay to good stabs at Greek accents by everyone from Bastedo to Blessed, with Gryff doing very well thanks to his long stint in The Lotus Eaters as police captain Michael Krasakis. They indulge in most of the common activities of the Greek myths, such as disguising themselves, impersonating others, sending mortals dreams to tell them what they need to do or what’s going on and scaring them witless. Soon, he’s meeting up with his brother’s partner in crime, Morrison, and getting shot at. He’s rescued by one of Helene’s helpers, Basileos (‘our god’ in Macedonian, and it’s Dionysus). Basileos, who appears at first to be silent, but who speaks Greek, Latin, English, Hebrew and numerous other languages, is able to fix Collier’s near-broken ankle with a simple poultice. If you’ve a few hours to spare and don’t mind YouTube, all eight episodes are available to view below. It’s worth watching, since despite the pacing, it’s an intriguing show and great fun. Plus it’s got Alexandra Bastedo and Brian Blessed in it.

Determined to uncover the true facts he is soon tangling with some unsavoury characters, including a wealthy yacht residing American, who all seem to know more than they are revealing. Collier is also convinced Helene has lots of secrets about his brother. Helene meanwhile, along with two “colleagues” Charalambos (Stefan Gryff) and Basileos (Brian Blessed) seems to have some rather special talents. the TV series entitled "The legacy of Aphrodite". The team members were welcomed at the airport by the Mr McEnery’s performance was not distinguished but one must take into account the material with which he had to work. As Helene, Alexandra Bastedo (stunningly but impractically dressed for a trip to the mountains) was certainly alluring. After that, Bird rounded up most of the usual suspects from The Lotus Eaters and Who Pays The Ferryman? and work began. which was to have a short bit of film in the 8.30pm main news bulletin with the newsreader speaking over it explaining the pictures. Bird’s dominance over the Med drama boom was due in part to his ability to arrange its financing in co-operation with Greek broadcasters. So adept did he become and so capable of providing sure-fire wins that he didn’t even have an idea for his third eagerly-expected series, to be set on Cyprus, before he got on the plane to meet with the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation to discuss the production. Adhering to a well-tried formula, series writer Michael J. Bird employed a familiar scenario in which swarthily sinister figures peered around corners, mysterious ladies made even more mysterious advances and no one but a fool would trust anyone else. Far more of the story’s best moments stem from the gods. Even when it’s not clear who they are or what they’re doing, their ability to be almost everywhere, always one step ahead of everyone else, manipulating everything and treating everything like a game despite the obvious dangers is far more thrilling, and indeed scary, than the simple fights and intrigues the mortals arrange for themselves – particularly once it becomes clear that they’re not regular people.
