About this deal

When she is given the opportunity to move to a remote tidal island off the Cornish Coast, Marisa Rossi decides some peace and quiet might be just what she needs. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted. And although initially I did think they were perhaps the main focus of the book, they are present the whole time and we do get chapters focusing on them, but the main character is Marisa who is new to the area. And thankfully that turns out to be the best decision of her life, although it is slow progress to come to that decision.

I could relate to Maria's anxiety and fears. I've never been that extreme myself but I didn't leave the neighborhood or go indoors for MONTHS in 2020 even after things opened up a bit more. I can relate to being shy with noisy neighbors who drive one crazy and being at wit's end to get them to stop without talking to them. Whenever a new Jenny Colgan (or Milly Johnson) book comes out I promise myself that I will savor it THIS time instead of inhaling it like a greedy child. AND as always, I stayed up until 1:00am totally devouring it until I was finished reading. Now, a month later after finishing listening to Beth O'Leary's "The Road Trip", I got to listen to this awesome story. These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone. Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence Marisa's recovery from anxiety seems a bit too pat. Yes, she does seek counseling and there are steps she goes through, but from seeing friends and family struggle with social anxiety and depression, I felt her journey was just too linear. Some parts and characters were well formed, interesting and realistic and others were there as plot devices/filler or just so plain annoying that it made the reading process quite challenging. And the ending with the party (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers) but WTF? The whole scene was just unnecessary and silly.

Whether you are new to Jenny Colgan's books or have read previous in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone, as the main focal characters are brand new! Moving in on the same day as her, into the neighbouring cottage is a Russian piano teacher and let's just say the cottages aren't sound proofed!I recommend this book to those who like women's fiction whether or not they've read the previous books. With each book, Jenny Colgan continues to hone her craft and each book just gets better and better. Well, with the caveat that "The Endless Beach" will always be my absolutely favorite Colgan of all time.

And Marisa is struggling with life generally at the moment since the death of her Nonno, and her ex landlord decided he doesn't want someone who has lost their way living with him, so suggests she moves to these rather out of the way cottages in Mount Polbearne, and with no other options she does just that. They were not in the blurb. I do not care about their family dynamic... I am reading this book for Marisa and her piano teaching neighbour as advertised in the blurb.

AND as always, I stayed up until 1:00am totally devouring it until I was finished. I liked Marisa and can relate to her feelings about her heritage and her family. Nonnas are kind, loving and welcome you into their kitchen to learn valuable life skills. They can be opinionated and critical and share their "advice" or "wisdom" but with grandchildren, they're not as tough as they were with their children. I didn't know my grandfather very well but I loved my Nonnie very, very much. Fortunately she died at 100 surrounded by her loving family and not alone but I still miss her. We talk about her often and bake her specialties, celebrate holidays with our family traditions and keep her memory alive.

One thing I didn't notice when I read it but definitely noticed while listening is that there was very little profanity and G/PG love scenes. Not sure if this was deliberate or not but I really appreciated it. Rueben and Kerensa are kind of throw away characters. They're obnoxious, more than ever now they have a kid. Rueben still throws money away like it's grass and Kerensa tries to keep up with the horrid mothers and rich witches. Neither of them set a good example for their kid. No wonder he's a spoiled brat. At first Lowin reminded me of Dudley Dursley but by the time his party rolled around, I could see he just wanted to be a normal kid. Lowin is rude to the twin who worship him. I understand. I've seen it go both ways with hero worship and acceptance or hero worship and rejection of the younger child. Lowin is too young to understand how to be fake nice to babies.
