The key stakeholders in the Nordic quantum technology eco-system have teamed up with IQT to launch a unique Nordic quantum technology conference. This year’s conference will be co-hosted by the Danish Quantum Community and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On 27 October, techUK’s tech & innovation programme, and international trade programme, joined forces to host the online event Working together towards a quantum future: Commercialisation of and international collaboration on quantum. Professor Braunstein received a prestigious Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award. He was awarded the honorary title of 2001 Lord Kelvin Lecturer and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Institute of Physics and the Optical Society of America. Before joining the University of York, he held a Humboldt Fellowship (spent at the University of Ulm).
Focusing on access to quantum,Stuart Woods, Oxford Instruments introduced the concept of commercialisationthrough cloud computing. He stated that “cloud for the people” allows for democratisation and acceleration ofquantum technologies.Bringing quantum to the peopleby thecloudin turnwill encourage use this technology andbecome inspired by new and innovative use cases. A special session midweek will be devoted to charting the future of the field. The organizers hope that this conference will stimulate interactions across disciplines and unveil new connections between seemingly disparate aspects of physics. 15. Another issue that came to light was the ability to control the volume. I don’t know about you but I usually set my speakers to a volume and then just control it from my pc. Well, from the volume dial on the actual speakers all the way to using any other form of control via windows or gaming keyboards etc., there were times that the speakers either did nothing or just started playing amazing loud. Although you could see the volume on the screen rising and falling gently in correspondence to your actions, proving that what you were doing was having an effect, the speakers were either all or nothing. Volume 2 on the windows volume mixer was stupidly loud and the physical dial on the speakers just turned the sound off. At one point I completely lost audio. Turning the speakers on and off restored the functionality of the volume dial on the actual speakers however any volume changes in windows using media keys to control the media/game just resulted in the sound levels messing around again. The sound of JBL Quantum DUO impressed me. This model is a clear example of how the manufacturer keeps its word and gives the customer exactly what he promised – acoustics for gamers. Playing computer games with Quantum DUO is a real pleasure: first of all for the reason that this speaker system broadcasts the stereo field almost as phenomenally as for its size; Of course, the left / right correspondence generally depends on the positioning of the speakers, but if you have the opportunity to position the system so that it forms a conditional equilateral triangle (the third vertex of which will be your head, of course), you will get a good sound panorama.
The panel were also clear that quantum technologies belong to an ecosystem that goes beyond computing. It can also include technologies such as QKD or quantum simulation. Each of these technologies are at different levels of maturity and therefore different stages of commercialisation. This is important to recognise when we look at the first use cases that will enter the market in the coming years.
