About this deal

Letters and sounds is a vital part of the early primary education curriculum, as it lays a foundation for all reading and writing development in the classroom. Teaching letters and sounds in the classroom is the method used in the UK when teaching children how to read. Letters and Sounds is a way of teaching children to read by linking phonemes and the symbols they represent, which are called graphemes or letter groups. As a result, it's a core component of English teaching, so it is important for children to engage with their lessons.

Figures for the Isles of Scilly and City of London are suppressed in the KS1 and phonics publication as these LAs have a single school and we do not publish school level information for key stage 1 or phonics. Regional eligible pupil figures are rounded to the nearest 10 so that it is not possible to derive figures for these LAs by summing the figures for the other LAs in the region. Reliability Sounding out: Using your phonic knowledge to help you say each sound within a word, e.g. ‘r-e-d’ or ‘s-au-ce-p-a-n’. Binary indicators have been added to the KS1 data to indicate whether pupils have achieved the expected standard in each subject. Next, they will learn how sounds can be put together ( blended) to make words. For example, they will learn that the sounds of the letters ‘m-a-t’ blend together to make the word ‘mat’. Your child will then learn more sounds and will start blending them too.The classroom frieze is a very visual resource and should be up in your classrooms from the start of the academic year. The Song of Sounds subscription isa one-stop shop for all your phonic needs, and each stage contains a plethora of exciting resources to use with your class. The Teacher Handbook details how to use the resources within each daily and weekly session, but there are endless ways you can use the resources to enhance your phonics provision. Here are just a few of our ideas…. The Song The phonics collection remains open for six weeks after the initial collection deadline so that revised data can be submitted to correct any errors identified by schools or LAs after submission.

Introducing young children to the joy and wonder of books requires a systematic teaching of phonics. Synthetic phonics If any pupils have no point score for one of more subjects, the APS will be calculated from the remaining subjects. The game covers 30 spelling patterns suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 7 years of age.Any pupils who do not have a valid KS1 outcome for a subject are excluded from the calculations for that subject and do not appear in the number of eligible pupils or in the outcome percentages. For reading, writing and mathematics, the valid outcomes are:

This worksheet first encourages children to practise writing out the words they can identify before asking them to select the ones which contain the ng phoneme.
