About this deal

This is the first US DVD release where the title differs greatly from the VHS title. This was also repeated on the Henry and the Elephant DVD, as well as the 2009 Lionsgate re-releases of Hop on Board: Songs and Stories, Really Useful Engines, Harvey to the Rescue, The Runaway Engine and Pop Goes the Diesel. Tempting Fate: To Henry's credit, he tried to warn Percy not to take large bodies of water lightly, as determination alone, cannot overcome nature. But the cheeky little saddle tank engine is in no mood to listen. Downer Ending: Percy is fetched out of the water, cold, miserable and in disgrace, and pulled away by a very amused Henry. In the close-up of Percy being pushed, a reflection of a hand can be seen in the water pushing the train. Additionally, Percy's eyes are wonky. The description says, "See what happens when Percy ends up to his funnel in water..." but the water only went up to his chin.

Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge is the tenth Ladybird book, based on the second series episodes Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge. It is illustrated using photographs from the television series. The Fat Controller: Harold told me you were a wizard. He says he can beat you at some things but not at being a submarine. I don't know what you two get up to sometimes but I do know that you're a really useful engine. Percy: Oh, sir! Merchandise

My Book Notes

Gordon Takes a Tumble | Henry and the Elephant | Percy Takes a Plunge | Thomas and the Special Letter | James and the Trouble with Trees | Spic and Span | Diesel from Thomas to the Rescue | Emily's Adventure The scene of Percy plunging intro the sea and the Fat Controller scolding Percy was featured in an episode of the fourth series of the ITV drama series Soldier Soldier.

Jerkass Ball: Due to portions of the script being taken verbatim from the original book, Henry is quite rude in this episode. He rudely tells Bill and Ben (foreign tank engines in the book) to leave the sheds and refers to them as "silly things". Second, after Percy defends the twins, Henry also calls him silly, and lastly, in the ending, he laughs at Percy for his incident with the water. Get Out!: Henry tells Bill and Ben to leave the sheds which are reserved for the Fat Controller's engines. During Percy's trip to the harbour, his brake van changes. Additionally, his left cylinder is hanging off. When Thomas explains to Percy about the sign, a studio light can be seen reflected off his smokebox. Entertainment to Grow Up With* | Two Thomas Adventures* | Thomas' Sodor Stories* | Fun with Thomas | Thomas' Trainyard Adventures* | Starting This Fall on PBS* | Thomas to the Rescue | Quarry Adventures on Sodor | The Story of Thomas and the Jet Engine | Thomas Tries His Best | Thomas' Birthday Sampler | Thomas & Friends 2008 Sampler DVD | Go, Go Thomas! | Thomas' Railway Adventures! | Disappearing DieselsWhen this episode was repeated on 2nd July 1991, an image of Percy stranded in the harbour water was used for the sneak peak in Radio Times. When Thomas is on Toby's Old Tramway, Clarabel is facing the wrong way. Then in the next shot, Annie is facing the wrong way. The next morning, Percy is taken to the works on Henry's goods train. Henry finds the incident very amusing after Percy's earlier boasts. When Percy states he didn't like the water, Henry replies he needs more determination and that perhaps he'll like it better next time. Percy, however, hopes there is no "next time". Narrator: It was a beautiful day but Edward was worried. Edward: Be careful, there's a storm coming. Percy: [to himself] A promise is a promise, no matter what the weather. Despite the fact that the water only reached Percy's footplate, he has a water line across his boiler when he meets Thomas at the end of the episode.

Modified models of the Coast Guard and a shrimper from TUGS appear at Suddery Coastal Village, making this the first episode to use TUGS models. Some of the 1995 Anchor Bay tapes have the Strand Home Video logo instead of the Video Treasures logo.Insane Troll Logic: After Thomas tells Percy not to go past the danger board and recounts his own experience, Percy concludes that the board is wrong because "I can't see a mine". In the shot of Percy's driver and fireman during the scene where Percy is in the flooded water, the fence behind them is submerged; but in the close-up of the fireman, the fence is completely above the water. This changes again in the shot of the driver, fireman and guard carrying the wooden planks through the water. Once Done, Never Forgotten: Henry, after being teased by Percy for being afraid of the rain, lampshades that no one will ever forget the time he wouldn't leave the tunnel because he thought the rain will spoil his paint. In the original Railway Series story, Percy tells his story to his group of unnamed friends from the Other Railway. In the episode, Bill and Ben take their place due to the impracticality and high cost of constructing several single-use engines.
