About this deal

Operation Ouch, Chris and Xand’s double BAFTA & Broadcast award-winning series for CBBC, continues to delight audiences around the world, with Series 12 being filmed in 2023. Throughout the series, the twins create fun and often disgusting experiments to help kids learn how the human body works. The programme results in fan mail from around the world from a young audience who want to know, above all, what they need to do to become doctors. Their second Operation Ouch tour of Australia this January was a huge hit and they hope to bring the fun to their British fans with a tour in 2018. The Science and Industry Museum has lifted the lid on its most outrageous adventure yet, which will see visitors dive headfirst into digestion and celebrate the amazing inner workings of the human body. Based on CBBC’s award-winning show, Operation Ouch! 21st July 2023 to 9th June 2024 – See more dates here The fun of the exhibition won't stop at the door, as the museum and BBC have partnered to bring a retail range of interactive, informative and entertaining Operation Ouch!-themed toys, games, kits and experiments to help visitors continue to explore our brilliant bodies at home. Chris and Xand grew up in London and both trained in medicine at Oxford University, specialising in infectious disease and tropical medicine. Chris is currently an Associate Professor in the division of Infection and Immunity at UCL. He has worked as a doctor in some of the harshest and strangest environments on earth and trained the Army in survival. Chris’s expedition series Operation Iceberg for BBC Two saw a group of scientists adventure into the arctic exploring the formation and life of icebergs, whilst Chris and Xand’s debut series on Channel 4 Medicine Men Go Wild, (2008) saw them travel to remote locations such as Congo and South Georgia, in a hugely adventurous journey that sought to explore the limitations of Western Medicine.

We know that there is nothing more engaging than a real-life experience. That's why we want to bring our BBC Children's much-loved TV brands into the real world, to deliver unforgettable experiences that educate and entertain young brilliant minds.' New stories from young people living with a range of digestive conditions will also be available for audiences to explore, along with the modern-day medicine helping to treat them. It then describes puberty and why this happens, defining it as changing from a child to a reproductive adult and explaining the changes that happen in female and male bodies: growth spurts, body hair, strength, sperm production, egg release and hormones. Steven Leech, Curator of Exhibitions at the Science and Industry Museum, said: “From slobber to stomach acid and vomit to poo, this exhibition challenges taboos and proves it’s healthy to understand and discuss how our bodies work. These notes outline the contents of the full Operation Ouch programme, ‘How are babies made?’. Please note that this film contains sexual references and you should watch it to gauge its suitability before showing either the full film or the shorter clips to your pupils. Whoooo, poo is my absolute favourite subject, and to be honest the only way to teach you about the digestive system is to make you part of it! In summer 2021, Chris and Xand launched their first podcast, A Thorough Examination with Drs Chris and Xand and reached the top spot across a variety of podcast charts. The audio series sees Chris send Xand on a journey to explore his relationship with ultra-processed food. Xand meets the world’s leading experts on food, weight, taste and addiction whilst going on a UPF binge in a bid to see if he can learn to hate it. Series 2 launched in 2022 and focused on if people can change and how they do it. We're smashing taboos with this exhibition, proving that it's not only fun to talk about everything from burps to belly rumbles and projectile vomit to poo, it's essential in understanding and maintaining a healthy relationship with our bodies.Jointly, Chris and Xand have published two books - Operation Ouch! The HuMaual - a book all about human biology for children; and Secrets of the Human Body which accompanied aground-breaking BBC2 Science series. You should ensure you are up-to-date with best practice in RSHE teaching before delivering this content. In this Operation Ouch programme, Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx explain how babies are made. Starting with relationships and families, they describe the combinations of humans that can make up a family: mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, dogs, two fathers, two mothers, foster families.
