Trigger/content warnings for child abuse and murder. The book literally starts off with a dead baby's body. There is also some child abuse (of course since we know the nanny is the killer) and mentions of threats. Whew. All that pent-up sexual tension exploded in one instance and it did so beautifully and I can finally breathe. It gave me intense blue balls in the first half and then I was left hot and bothered for the remainder of it. No complaints here. The only extra they ever do for her is to take her with them on vacation in Greece - so she can watch the kids of course. The Nanny can’t imagine life without her ‘family’ and despairs of what will happen to her when both children start school and the couple no longer needs her. Nanny goes Medea? Greek tragedy requires a more metaphorical approach though, not a hyper-realistic description of contemporary Paris suburban life. Had she not been Medea, the main character could have made a statement about all those lost, lonely souls out there. As it is, Louise loses her voice in a flood of blood. No pity, just terror and disgust.

But Cassie has hard time to resist the charm of her boss! And she finds a big secret about him. When Cassie worked as a camgirl for OnlyFans account to make extra money for school tuition, she fell for her customer she had several private sessions. Their sessions turned something more intimate and they decided to have a face to face meeting eventually. But her customer got cold feet and ghosted her. So she felt broken-hearted and deleted her account. Now she finds out the man she virtually felt so hard is the same man she’s ogling daily ! It’s her hot boss! The story is told in multiple alternating perspectives between a detective, Jo (our protagonist), her mother Virginia, and my absolute favourite an unknown narrator which adds intrigue and this evil sense of foreboding to the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed Jo’s daughter Ruby and found myself more drawn to her character than to our main character here. Jo’s character was really maddening and totally frustrated me. I might have yelled at her and shook my head multiple times at her while I was reading this book. Why couldn’t she just see what was happening? She definitely had blinders on!

For those thriller readers who don’t like an unbelievable twist, you can be rest assured that you won’t find any here, everything that happens is believable, if not a bit predictable, but I think Macmillan’s intention was to explore, rather than surprise. When a bunch of women are thrown together in a big drafty house, all acting on different levels of privilege, jealousy is bound to arise as each person vies for power of one another. The pesky matter of a surfacing corpse and subsequent police investigation pale in comparison to the emotional war being fought within the family circle. I can't promise I'll ever read another Leïla Slimani book, if and whenever she publishes it, but it really depends, like always. but ‘that’ movie wouldn’t win a French prestigious award. So do you see my curiosity? It isn’t by the way.She has the keys to their apartment; she knows everything; she has embedded herself so deeply in their lives that it now seems impossible to remove her. A woman discovers the father of the child she is nannying may be her biggest (Only)Fan in this steamy contemporary romance by Lana Ferguson. Writing/Prose: Well-written, vivid, suspenseful, engaging, captivating, and readable. I didn’t immediately connect to the writing style like I have with other books by this author but once I did, it was smooth sailing from there. a b c Vanessa Thorpe (25 June 2000).
