About this deal

You could use this to just add a slight sense of warmth and depth to a basic clean tone, or you could make it sound like it’s being blasted into your ears via the depths of the cosmos. It’s an incredibly versatile effect, and you’ll find it on the pedalboards of pretty much every guitar player. Where should my reverb pedal go in the chain? The expression pedal input is really handy for adding swells or controlling the amount of ‘verb on the fly, and the whole thing is in a standard Boss casing that’s rugged and reliable. The spring mode is a little splashy we’ll admit, but considering how good the rest of the reverbs are, it’s a small price to pay. To switch to the Trials Bypass mode, you need to put the pedal through a start up sequence explained in the manual here. It’s disappointing to see this as other pedals tend to simply use an internal switch. But as you will probably only set it once if you want to use that bypass mode, it’s isn’t too big a deal. Sound Here atMusicRadar, we are experts in our field, with many years of playing, creating and product testing between us. We live and breathe everything music gear related, and we draw on this knowledge and experience of using products in live, recording and rehearsal scenarios when selecting the products for our guides. I own over 20 reverb pedals. There isn't any mode on this one that impresses me and that I haven't heard done 100 times better on other pedals.

There’s a ludicrous amount of reverb pedals available, doing everything from warm room tones and period-accurate spring reverbs, right through to ambient modulated synth sounds that reverberate infinitely. Choosing the best reverb pedal for you can be tough, so it’s important to do your research before pulling the trigger, especially as the majority of the pedals are relatively expensive. Go on jimdunlop.com to learn how you can adjust it further under the advanced [ settings ] video. A truly well thought out pedal that punches way above its price point. If I had one complaint it would be that the blue LED light is very bright ! That's easily remedied however. If you're sitting on the fence as I was for several weeks jump onto the MXR M 300 reverb.I think about the M300 Reverb in a similar way as I do with the Carbon Copy. Sure, there are plenty of other delay pedals that have more features than the Carbon Copy, but there’s something about how it sounds that just grabs you. The Carbon Copy is an incredibly popular delay pedal because it delivers a great sounding delay. The M300 is set to True Bypass by default, which isn’t ideal for a reverb pedal. While True Bypass may suit some situations, it’s generally better to use the Trails Bypass mode so your reverb will never cut off unnaturally if you bypass the pedal. Presets are accessible in separate banks of three presets (A, B, and C), which are accessible via the pedal’s three footswitches and/or the rotary value control knob. The large LED displays preset info, including its number and a programmable name. The LEDs surrounding the rotary reverb-type control change color from green to amber to let users know when a preset has been modified. Spring: a classic guitar amp reverb instantly recognizable by guitarists. If your amp doesn’t have a spring reverb and you want to get that vintage sound, it’s a really fun reverb to use. Several of these effects - tremolo, modulated, and dynamic - have three different sets of parameters that can be selected with the mode switch. The mode switch also selects tap tempo divisions for the echo setting and engages either interval or mix edit parameters for the Poly setting. Other controls include an FX level, time (decay), and tone knobs, with the latter two also providing a second set of parameters that are accessible by holding down the mode button for about one second.

As you would expect from a pedal with only three control knobs, it’s very easy to use the M300 Reverb. You select the type of reverb you want by pushing the Tone knob down. The three LEDs in the middle will cycle through the six reverb types which is a nice way to instantly see what type of reverb is selected.

The Light Pedal is GCA’s attempt at redefining what a reverb pedal can be. Combining a real spring tank with an innovative infrared optical sensor system, the Light Pedal can be used to create brand-new sounds we guarantee you’ve never heard before. I finally got a chance to demo my new MXR Reverb pedal! Wow! It has 6 great usable reverb presets which are individually tweak-able for your preference. Easy to navigate even for an old dog with 41+ years of live performance experience. I'm using it in a worship / praise band with a side of original music. It adds just the right sweetening to perk up the ears of the congregation.

After you get a feel for each type of reverb, you can then move to your normal style of playing and see which types of reverb suit your style. As to what might suit your own particular purposes then there's plenty on offer here. Of the Stereo ones the newer Immerse and HOF2 stand out, for the Mono ones - the Oceans 11 was looking pretty good until The Atmosphere and Dark World arrived. If you're into more vanilla Reverbs and want the most capable at this size - then that's likely The Atmosphere. If you're into the more quirky side of things I can't see how / why you would want anything other than the Dark World. I feel that despite a number of successes to date - this will go on to become Joel Korte's most popular pedal by some distance. I would still want to see a stereo version of this. I know the Mooer Ocean Machine does some interestingly quirky things, and both my RV-500 and Ventris are capable of sort of similar things - I just really want those Dark-side algorithms though!

As for Sweetwater itself ? I can't say enough glowing adjectives about this company. What people say about them is very true. They are my sole musical vendor. When it comes to premium digital emulations of classic studio and amp reverbs in one portable place on your 'board, this Universal Audio pedal sets the standard. Three different choices in each category of spring, plate and hall reverbs can be found here, channeling the company's plugin prowess into pedal form for the first time. These are all favourites of mine, and can all generate great Reverb sounds - it really depends on exactly what you’re looking for, what your own rig requires and how deep your wallet is. If you like the look of the Dark World you may be a touch late for the first batch which I believe is now pretty much sold out already. Shimmer is an ethereal, octave-up reverb effect with a long, sustaining tail that produces a synth-like texture, and the polyphonic reverb applies two programmable pitch shifts to the reverb tail to also generate complex, synth-like sounds. Pad: my favorite reverb when noodling. This reverb adds in an octave up and down synth style effect. You can adjust whether you hear the octave up, down or both with the Tone knob. As you can hear in the above video, it’s a very lush effect. Of course you can tone it down using the Decay knob if you want a subtler effect.

No one wants a pedal that takes ages to set up. Simplicity is key especially with things like reverb, that is why the MXR just has three simple controls. Mix which sets the dry/wet mix of the effect, Tone sets the feel of the effect rolling in more high end, the Decay control sets how long you want the reverb to last. Nice and simple to set up and get any tone you want. Here's what MXR say about the M300 Reverb PedalFinally, there's also a step-sequencer in the NightSky, presumably to add experimental options akin to those in the Hologram Infinite Jets and Microcosm. It's not clear that it's a USP in the context of the NightSky, which is more of a studio reverb workstation than an esoteric weirdo box. Even though none of these would replace my existing trio of reverbs, and my most likely next addition to the collection is the GFI System Specular Tempus - the Dark World in particular has something which draws me in - I may try to accommodate it in some way eventually - here’s hoping a few more of these will be stereo by then!
