About this deal

Unfortunately, it’s not obvious what some of these features mean. I still have no idea what SmartShift is all about. These details should be in the manual, the one that Logitech didn’t write. When you scroll in Ratchet mode, you can adjust the feel of your scroll wheel on the Point & Scroll tab in Logitech Options+. Connecting to my laptop with the USB receiver was effortless; I just wish Logitech found a place to store the dongle in the mouse. There is no integrated USB storage, so be careful not to lose the receiver when you unplug it from your device. Logitech MX Anywhere 3 features The metal scroll wheel is a real bonus. Logitech boasts that the optical sensor will work on any surface and I have to agree. The Anywhere 3 functioned perfectly on a glass table and a desk with a highly reflective white top. If you are out and about and don’t want to carry a mouse mat, this level of surface tolerance is very handy. After the installation process was completed, Options started and presented three tabs. On the Mouse tab, Options provides a tour of available options.

The Logitech MX Anywhere 3 is equipped with a Nano receiver, allowing for easy connection to compatible devices. The mouse also offers the option of using the Unifying receiver, enhancing its versatility. It supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, enabling seamless connectivity to devices that support this feature. Also in the Logitech Options software is Flow, which lets you move your cursor from one computer screen to the next and even copy and paste or send files between computers. Setup was super easy; within minutes, I was moving my cursor between an Dell XPS 15 work laptop and the HP EliteBook 840 I'm currently reviewing. All you have to do is pair the mouse to both computers and open the Options software. Logitech MX Anywhere 3: Buttons and customization

What’s in the box?

Sensor, wheel, and buttons will be supported without adding additional drivers on ChromeOS and in most popular Linux distributions The speed-adaptive scroll wheel shifts between two scrolling modes automatically. As you scroll faster, it will automatically shift from line-by-line scrolling to free-spinning. You will need to install Logitech Options software on both computers and follow these instructions.

If you want more advanced functionality, you can assign the top button of the mouse to be the “Gesture Button”. This will transform your top button into a powerful multi-function button allowing you to use gestures for desktop navigation, app management, pan, zoom, and more. Sensor, wheel, and buttons will be supported without adding additional drivers on ChromeOS and in most popular Linux Bluetooth: Open the Bluetooth settings on your computer to complete the pairing. More details here. While it is not possible to draw a conclusion about the overall quality of the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 based solely on its specifications, it can be noted that Logitech is a reputable brand in the computer peripheral industry known for its commitment to delivering reliable and durable products.Remember how I mentioned previously that the MX has two buttons on the left side? It turns out that they can be customized for various applications. The installer detected that I have some apps that can be customized, and it offered to set the pre-defined settings for them, which I accepted. In the Flow tab, I could enable Flow, a capability to transfer files from one computer to another; it sounds like Apple’s AirDrop to me. As one of my connected computers is a work computer, I did not install Options on my work computer or attempt to test this feature. Exfiltrating files from my work computer directly to my home computer sounds like a good way to get fired. If, however, I was using this feature with two personal computers, it might be handy. NOTE: If the LED is not blinking fast, do a long press of three seconds on the Easy-Switch button on the mouse bottom. This is done with a two-button combination: Press and hold one of the side buttons and scroll with the wheel simultaneously. In Logitech Options+ software, you can decide to disable SmartShift if you prefer to stay in one scrolling mode and always shift manually. You can also adjust the SmartShift sensitivity, which will change the speed required to automatically shift into free spinning.

NOTE: The horizontal scroll is ON by default in your Logitech Options+ software. You can customize this feature in the Point & Scroll tab in Logitech Options+.Connect one end of the provided charging cable to the USB-C port on the mouse and the other end to a USB power source. When you scroll in Ratchet mode, you can adjust the feel of your scroll wheel on the “Point & Scroll” tab in Logitech Options.

Your mouse buttons can be assigned to perform different functions for different applications. For instance, you can assign the side buttons to control volume in Spotify, copy/paste in Microsoft Excel, or undo/redo in Adobe Photoshop. In the All Application drop down, I can change the functionality for the buttons per each supported application. For example, for Safari the front button on the left can be set to ten different options. After two hours editing spreadsheets with the Logitech, my right hand started to feel a bit jittery, something that stopped when I switched to a larger mouse. To be fair, this is the inevitable side effect of a compact design and the Anywhere 3 is still the most comfortable compact mouse I’ve ever used. Logitech MX Anywhere 3 review: Should you buy one?
