Description

Earth AD” is often credited as being highly influential on the advent of the hardcore and speed metal scene. Static Age is the only full-length Misfits album to feature the band’s original guitarist Franché Coma and 2nd drummer Mr. Jim, along with co-founders Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig. Far ahead of its time, “Static Age” is one of the truly great punk records bred in the scene of the late 70s, offering a unique blend inherent only in the Misfits. Lost for nearly 20 years, the record is equally potent, if not more so now, than it was upon conception and will hold-up for generations to come.

A limited edition blue vinyl 45 and promotional CD single were issued for the first single “Dig Up Her Bones”.

The cover artwork by the late Mad Marc Rude depicts all four band members as ghouls amidst non-descript zombies and monsters. The band members are depicted with green eyes from left to right, Doyle, Jerry Only (front/center), Glenn Danzig and Robo. The box set also includes 30 rare never before released alternate versions and out-takes from the band’s legendary recording sessions including the original versions of “Cough Cool”&“She” from the Misfits first single (1977), the famous MSP sessions (1980) and lots more. A limited edition of 3,000 pcs pressed on neon-green vinyl was released in Europe, which is also sold out and long out of print. The video for “Dig Up Her Bones” features clips from the 1935 horror classic "The Bride of Frankenstein”, (a personal request of the Misfits), as the film provided inspiration for the song. Sarah Karloff, known Misfits supporter and daughter of Boris Karloff, personally gave her permission for the use of her father's likeness and Elsa Lanchester's estate (who represent the woman behind the "The Bride"), gave their consent as well. Two cuts of the “Bones” video were released, both identical except for an intro utilizing the Universal Pictures logo of the 1930’s and a dialogue based clip from the “Bride of Frankenstein”.

For more in-depth info on the history of the “Static Age” album, please see the “Static Age” entry of this discography (above). The original Misfits broke up in October 1983, having released several 7" singles and 12" records, all of which were DIY limited-edition and most of which were hand-assembled by the band, that have long been considered prime collectors' items. The bulk of the band's material was released on Glenn's Plan 9 label. The band's popularity grew exponentially following their split and their material and tapes of their live shows were heavily bootlegged. Limited edition colored vinyl LPs were also released. In North America, the first LP pressing was a limited edition of 1,000 pcs on 100-gram solid blue vinyl. The second pressing on 100 gram PURPLE vinyl was also limited to 1,000 pcs. Both pressings are sold out and long out of print.Project 1950 was the first full-length release from the newly launched indie label “Misfits Records” and the first to be distributed under the deal with Rykodisc (now Rykodisc/Warner Bros) as exclusive distributor. The first LP pressing in ‘83 included approx. 1,000 colored vinyl LPs estimated at 100 green, 500 yellow, 200 purple and 200 clear vinyl (most with colored swirls). Evilive was originally a 7-inch EP containing 7 songs released in 1982 on Plan 9 Records exclusively through the Fiend Club and ultimately available in 5 different picture sleeves. The Devil's Rain" is the judgment of all others who stand before us, like a prophecy. The old B-movie was an influence to some of the lyrics, but the song itself is as if the heavens opened and swallowed our enemies. They have...and a new “rain” of terror begins"

Acey Slade, Arthur Googy, Bobby Steele, Brian Keats, Dave Lombardo, David Calabrese, Dez Cadena, Eric "Goat" Arce, Frank LiCata, Glenn Anzalone, Jerry Caiafa, Jerry Caiafa II, Jim Catania, Joey Image, Julio Valverde, Kenneth Schalk, Manny, Marc Bell, Marc Rizzo, Michael Emanuel Static Age was originally slated for release on CD in 1995 but delayed. Promo posters were printed advertising, “The Static Age is “Coming Halloween 1995”. A small percentage of these posters were given to the Misfits and the majority destroyed by Caroline Records. At the time, former frontman and Misfits co-founder Glenn Danzig informed the source reels for the album could not be found, refusing participation in the release of “Static Age” as well as the Misfits 4-disc “Box Set”.Fiend Facts: Although 1978’s “Static Age” is the first full-length album ever recorded by the Misfits, it remained unreleased in its entirety until nearly two decades later. The album finally received its debut in 1996 in the Misfits Box Set. not long after that, i found a 12" bootleg of "Beware" and even for a raw needle-drop from a source with notable surface noise, it totally blew away any other versions of those songs i ever heard before. In it’s initial release on LP and cassette in 1985, 1,000 copies were pressed in colored vinyl (500 red vinyl LPs and 500 white vinyl LPs). Legend has it that as a result of not cleaning the stampers during the color switch in the pressing plant, a small percentage of the 1,000 colored vinyl LPs (rumored to be 16 pcs) include various shades of pink. Following the legal proceedings sparked by the “Legacy” album, fans would finally hear many classic-era Misfits recordings as they were originally intended, starting with the long awaited release of the legendary “Static Age” album in 1996.
